I have very mixed feelings about SNHU. First, let me begin by explaining that I have attended a private traditional liberal arts college before and then left for awhile. After that brief hiatus from higher education I went to night school at a community college. Finally, I transferred here because I figured the online program seemed reputable, was accredited and would fit my full-time work schedule. The quality of education seems on par with the previous institutions I have attended and I like how... Read More each course has the same set up, it makes going from class to class a breeze. BUT let me explain some problems that I have encountered here and I suspect both current and prospective students face: The rubrics. SNHU has streamlined every class so that there is a rubric for each assignment that the instructor, always an adjunct and never an actual professor, is in charge of administering and grading. Often, I have had the unfortunate experience of encountering that the rubric says to do one thing and the instructor either is not interpreting it accurately or else dislikes it and finds ways to grade that penalize the student for following the rubric. I am not a bad student. I have never had anything less than an 'A' in any of the classes that I have taken here but I will say the instructions given on the rubrics and the instructors grading style aren't always matched quite well. I suspect if the instructors were allowed to come up with their own assignments and administer them this problem might easily be fixed. In addition, other problems I have noted are that one either encounters instructors who are passionately dedicated and micro graders or noticeably aloof and detached. There never seems to be a happy medium between the two. In addition, a review of adjunct comments on websites like Glassdoor which feature reviews from employees seems to show that SNHU underpays and values their instructors little which is sad because that has a direct impact on how they perform and how students are treated. The coursework is challenging enough. I'm an English major and have learned a lot in my core classes. Like any university there will be a bunch of general education requirements. Suck it up, this is how college is. I see a lot of reviewers complaining about taking them but I swear, it is the same at every college. My advice: get them out of the way first or take them at a community college where they cost less and will easily transfer. In order to receive accreditation, SNHU is mandated to make you take them. Those classes are usually not fun but I will say that SNHU made them easier to get through. I've always been rather bad at math but the math class I was required to take at SNHU was designed for students who were liberal arts majors so it wasn't so bad. Also-I like that each course is only 8 weeks so if one doesn't like a class or feels like they are struggling it isn't so long to suffer. Finally, the other negative is that everything has sort of a strange corporate feel. When I initially applied here I was bombarded with marketing calls from what seemed like sales people from admissions. They were nice but annoying. But this seems to be happening at many institutions because higher education is facing disruptions from technology and dwindling student enrollment. I did appreciate the way financial aid was handled and each time I have had a question I receive a pleasant and quick response. Advising is helpful, too. My adviser is easy to talk to and handles a lot of registration related stuff for me. She's also motivating. Overall this is the takeaway I want to give you if you are considering this school: It is a mixed bag. Pros: They understand most of the students are working adults who need degrees and have a very flexible platform and streamlined process that is easy to learn. Advising seems to care. Each class is structed the same. Degrees are accredited. Cons: Unclear instructions on rubrics, some bad apples that are adjuncts, cost is higher than some public universities, strange corporate marketing that makes it seem less like a college and more like a business which I suspect in many ways it is I'm going to give the school a solid 3. It is giving me what I need and I do plan to graduate but I would not say I love it. Nor is it for everyone. If you are a self motivated person and can handle meeting deadlines and do not need much hand holding this could be for you. If you are more traditional, need a lot of personal explanation or attention than look elsewhere, perhaps at a brick and mortar school.

An undergraduate degree is the bare minimum in today's marketplace. Even store managers in retail and restaurants have four year degrees these days. I came to APUS for an MA but discovered that my undergraduate was from a now-defunct college which was not nationally or regionally accredited. That meant that I had to transfer my accredited AA credits over and redo my junior and senior years. I managed a full-time course load with a full-time job. I periodically thought about quitting or slowing down... Read More but I stayed motivated and it paid off. I now have a regionally accredited undergraduate degree and have enrolled in a graduate program at APUS. I had a good classroom experience. Most students were there to do the bare minimum to pass. But I was able to connect with others like me who wanted to do a good job and get an A. That requires work but it can be done. Many of my instructors had a PhD and almost all had been teaching in online and traditional universities for many years. You have to teach yourself but all the resources are provided to you in the classroom. All books are included so you can save quite a bit at APUS. The tuition is more affordable than other popular online universities. The school is regionally accredited by HLC so you can use your degree to get a job that requires one (corporate, commissioned officer, federal agent, state game warden, etc.). I had a very positive experience and I hope that others can enroll, do the work, get their degree, and move on with the rest of their lives. Good luck!

I expected a lot from this program and as far as the actual classes go, I did get a lot out of it. However I attended this school based on the understanding that most of my credits would, however they don't because "we want you to take our classes". I seem to be having to do the job of the staff by going and following up multiple times only to still not have what I needed done done. It's been 4 months and I still don't have financial aid kicked in after I have called multiple times and every person... Read More says they put a ticket in. I've requested my transcripts to be evaluated multiple times before they eventually were and I am still having problems with my classes not fitting the requirement for being "too advanced for this field". I had never heard such a thing. Statistics is still a Math class. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get it applied. I'm very disappointed in the lack of follow through on the academic advisors as well as the financial services team. But the teachers are good and I am learning a lot.

So I went through many school changes while I attended-from regular semester lengths down to 8 week classes. The 8 week classes is when things went south with the school. (And as class length shortened, tuition increased.) There was not enough to write research papers, so we did the bare minimum. If you fell behind at any point, you were essentially screwed as there was no time to play catch up. Read More to sit at a screen all day to read articles and lecture notes, or you have to print everything. And for my history and english classes, this was A LOT of paper. As far as services go, we were not assigned an advisor, so whomever we spoke to was essentially giving us generic information and not actually able to fully help. I was glad to finally graduate and be done with that place.

Southern New Hampshire knows what they're doing. I choose them for convenience with an online degree and the amazing tuition prices. There is always someone there to answer any questions you may have; which, believe me, I took advantage of. With online courses, you get teachers and participating students from all over the world, so classes are full of different values, beliefs, and views. You get to experience all the on campus quality from your own home.
I will say, however, that sometimes I felt... Read More like cattle. I had a few teachers who didn't even bother to change their modules from class to class. For example, I took a class from June to August, and the teacher wished us a very, merry Christmas! That said, that was more the teachers fault than the school.
I took the accelerated route, where once I started, I didn't stop. SNHU online classes are condensed eight-week courses that take you quickly through your degree. You work through holidays, vacations of any kind, summer, etc. I believe in the two years at SNHU I had a total of 2 weeks with no classes. BUT! That said, that was my choice. I liked having the ability to map out my own educational route. SNHU has definitely had the practice and knows what they're doing in terms of a quality education.

At age 19, I took advantage of Starbucks' partnership with Arizona State University in which my Bachelor's degree would be payed for by working in a coffee shop for twenty hours a week. It was an incredible deal! I adored my job and flourished at Arizona State. After graduating high school, I completed one year at a traditional state school, and did poorly. With my classes being online, I was able to pace myself and learn on my own, not space out in class and be distracted with other classmates as I had at my previous school. Even better, my professors were worth their weight. I could tell they genuinely cared about what they were teaching (except for maybe one philosophy professor). Several professors were even nationally recognized and boasted impressive awards and contributed greatly to their fields, for which I felt privileged to be their student. By graduation, I was finishing six months ahead of time, had a 3.72 GPA, and was accepted into Golden Key International Honor Society. I could speak positively about my experience at ASU for hours, and that just shows how much love and respect I have for my Alma Mater.

I am a student at Southern New Hampshire University and am currently in my Senior year. I received my Associates in 2015 and went to Manchester to walk for graduation. Studying online can be difficult, it takes commitment and dedication like nothing else imagineable, but I am thankful for SNHU. If it were not for SNHU I would not have been able to get this far. A traditional campus was never an option with so many things going on. As far as paying for school goes SNHU is a bit expensive, but not in comparison to other private schools of similar rank. Private education is always more than public schools though. All of that being said, the learning experience and the relationships formed are priceless. If you think you can handle intense study programs over a duration of years and a classroom setting is not an option for you, I would recommend SNHU. I work in Private Security while in school and without the Associates I would be making about $3. less an hour.

I was enrolled in the 100% online bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in "Literary Studies." I thoroughly recommend this program to anyone interested in studying English. It was thorough in that I had the opportunity to study not only the classics but also more modern works from all different cultural backgrounds. It was a wonderful experience and Dr. D was with me every step of the way encouraging me and offering me feedback that really challenged my way of thinking and opened my eyes to new perspectives. The students that I interacted with online were anywhere between eighteen and fifty-five years of age and I loved the diversity. Coming from all different backgrounds, each of us had something unique to say about the reading we had been assigned. These differences in opinion helped us all step out of ourselves and think more broadly about a subject and what that subject might mean to others. Overall, the professors were helpful, kind, and provided useful feedback. The online environment seemed to very conducive to honest discussion and allowed all the students to work around their own schedule. This is the perfect school and the perfect program for anyone passionate about learning and improving themselves. I grew as person through this program and I would be delighted if I could go back and do it all over again.

I received my bachelor's degree online from TESU in 2018. My experience was great overall. TESU is an accredited university catered to the military and busy, working adults. When I enrolled, there was an age requirement of 21 that could be bypassed with a special exception request. Highly recommend if you are self-starting, motivated, and able to handle online learning. They accept up to 90 transferred credits, including credit-by-exam such as CLEP, DSST/DANTES, etc. If you are going this route,... Read More make a list of exams and classes you think will meet the requirements then meet with a guidance counselor to confirm they meet the criteria. You can save a lot of time and money this way. I completed my degree in 2.5 years and the total cost was around $22,000. I will say their tuition has gone up in the past few years. You can get around this by taking all but two classes from other accredited universities, though. As far as professors go, I had one that didn't grade per the grading rubric. The rest were fair and gave helpful feedback. Look up your professors on RateMyProfessors before enrolling in classes. Note: I don't recommend this school if you don't do well with online learning.

Overall, the school was okay. Regarding Financial Services, well afterall, this is a for-profit college. Given that, it is basically a business and they are out to make money. There should be a balance to almost everything, so I am advocating that a quality education should be just as important as money to this school if not more important. Read More were really not traditional teachers or professors who studied to educate in the field that they are teaching. This is where one may get the impression that profit overrides quality at this institution. However, I believe I did end up with a good Admissions Rep, Academic Advisor, Financial Advisor, and two out of three good instructors. One was actually an exceptionally great instructor. This Instructor I believed to actually have been more than just knowledgable in the course she taught, but actually was an educator as she reminded me of my high school AP teachers in her method of teaching. I am sad to say, or even rather upset that one of the three instructors was not lacking in educating skills, but was rather unprofessional. Teachers should not be biased when it comes to their preferences in communicating with their students. This instructor seemed to be jealous of and therefore unwilling to communicate with the students who actually seemed to be a little more advanced than others in their class. It's almost as if he was intimidated by those of who were familar with the topic and already were knowledagable with prior insight regarding the topic. He seemingly would pat the students on the back who's answers and responses to questions and discussion posts were really lacking in competence as far as legibility and validiity. Some of their answers would be so far off topic that you could tell they had not even remotely read the lesson and were just philosophically spewing out their own personal assumption or guess. But with students who intelligently and thoroughly responded with statements that asserted they had actually read the lesson, he would by pass their statements and would make an effort to respond to almost every discussion response with a "good job" but the person or persons with the correct, well-written and thought out responses. I have to say that insecure and unprofessional instructors such as mentioned have no place in instructing and being responsible for giving grades to students they have a biased against. Finally, working in groups is not such a good idea when it involves your grade is depending on others participating or one person made to be responsible for submitting an assignment for several people. Not only that, but the discussion boards themselves caused for a lot of child-like behavior with people who were more focused on the social aspect of learning than actually learning. Some even who had the same problem that the above mentioned instructor had with seemingly being intimidated by those who were putting forth their best effort which meant being as professional as they could. You would expect this in middle school and maybe even high school, but in a college class, this should not be the case being that everybody attending are adults who should be like such in their mentality as far as immaturely competing with one another when college is supposed to be about self-focus and achievement. I believe that this problem is a result of making the students respond to other student's discussion post and working in teams. In doing so, you can tell those of who some students don't like as they will continuously comment on the same students post instead of indiscriminately interacted with all of their class mates. I am a zero tolerant person when it comes to playing games. Though I didn't let it stop me from doing my best, I will say that as important and as valuable as an education is in today's society, it is so irritating to have to deal with and see petty, child like behavior in a class room full of ADULTS. I would rather be in a class or at a school where the curriculum is more individually oriented and where we simply do our assignments and turn them in. Discussions should be done only when necessary as they are in a traditional class setting where we mostly discuss the topic with and to our teacher. To sum it up, do what it best for you. If you don't mind the obstacles that I mentioned above, it might be a great personal fit for you.
