Like others have said I wonder what school many of the negative reviews are referring to? I majored in Educational Studies, though I had planned on getting certified as an elementary school teacher. I knew that Educational Studies would not lead to teacher certification, but Covid was spreading at the time and I could not get into the classrooms to do my field work like I wanted to, so I decided to pursue a degree that required minimal classroom participation. After working as a substitute for a time, I was offered a position as a Paraprofessional. I took the position and am currently working in that field. I will be attending GCU to complete my teacher certification soon in a Master's program. I would like to say that there was no problem with getting a position in the Atlanta Public School. The interviews went well and the bachelor's degree from GCU was accepted without question by the Atlanta Public School System. What really surprised me was when I entered the classroom as a Paraprofessional I discovered that the classes I had taken at Grand Canyon University were so relevant to the curriculum of the Atlanta Public School system. I found myself constantly saying things like, "Wow I learned that at Grand Canyon." The degree in Elementary School teaching at Grand Canyon University is highly recommended. When reading one of the student's IEPs as a Para (I had a one on one student) I was comfortable with what I was reading, because I had studied similar wording and situations in courses at Grand Canyon University. While attending Grand Canyon University I found the teachers and administrators extremely helpful. Whenever I needed help they always responded to me in a timely manner.

I am grateful that I completed my Education, however, I was not able to have my transcript, because of a $300.00 balance. I pleaded with my student counselor but I was not successful. How about bending the rules for students that owe less than $500.00? Flordia Education allows new teachers to apply for a temporary certification, I would have gotten a teaching job, but since GCU is money hungry for $300, I had to wait to clear my balance. As I read other student's negative reviews, I am absolutely appalled. University of Phoenix changed my life for the good. I appreciate school and online learning more and I am truly grateful for this school. My advisor was more than everything I could ask for. If you do not use the sources they provide as far as; tutoring, paper checker, and so forth. Your loss. They have anything and everything you could think of to help you become a better student. Get your things in on time, actually try, and... Read More be an adult and take care of your education responsibly THEN maybe you will not have anything negative to say. If you need help, call your advisor. That is what they are there for. For anyone prospecting this school and still unsure, I am assuring you to take the plunge.

Liberty University Online has been a wonderful experience for me. I recently graduated with my undergraduate degree and am beginning gradate classes this semester. The academic excellence, flexible scheduling, comparatively low tuition, and support all were exactly what I needed to be able to continue my life and gain practical work experience while earning my fully regionally accredited degree. I love that I am not tied down to specific class times, and also, because liberty allows for CLEP credit... Liberty is a great school and I am extremely happy to be an alumni and continuing student!

I earned my associate's degree from a local community college and had taken quite a few classes toward my bachelors at the local university when I heard about WGU. I decided to go to WGU as it sounded very convenient. I work and have a family, so WGU seemed ideal for me. At first it seemed wonderful... perfect! My degree plan showed I needed about 12 classes to finish, which was a couple more than what I would have needed through the university, but I felt that was a good trade off. The first term... Read More with WGU went well, but then my mentor stopped calling and would not respond to my email or phone calls. I was on my own. For the most part, this wasn't a big deal as I'm very organized and motivated to get my assignments done. I was getting concerned though as things were not going as they should and no one would give me any answers. I had asked for Elementary Education, but they put me in Special Education saying it was just a couple more classes and would be good for me, even though it's not the area I wanted. I couldn't get anyone to change it. When it came time for my 2nd term, my entire degree plan changed... it now had 33 classes!!! Special Education was still my degree, so that hadn't changed, but they added a LOT more classes. No one could tell me why all of those classes were added... what a shock that was to me! Eventually, my mentor was replaced, and she was very nice, but didn't seem to know much. She always had to get back with me and never had concrete answers for me. Very frustrating. Just a few weeks into the 2nd term, I started to get so concerned that I decided to contact the local university and see what my options were to finish my degree. Only one course I took through WGU transferred, the rest were not necessary... so I wasted a lot of time and money. My graduation date through WGU was going to be 2017, but through the university, it will be 2015! I think WGU is a great concept, but there are many kinks they need to work out. I wasn't able to put forth the money and time needed to finish at WGU. Plus, I must be able to fully trust and gain the answers and information I need. I did not feel that way with WGU. I have also been told personally that the lack of letter grade and grade point average can be a big deal for some schools who are hiring. I hear mixed reviews about how WGU is perceived with those looking to hire teachers. I couldn't take that risk either.

I've read a lot of the reviews and if you are reading these to decide whether or not to choose WGU then you have to take some of the reviews with a grain of salt. Everyone learns in a diferent way and this learning model will not work for everyone. If you are someone that needs to sit and listen to a lecture or do not learn well on your own with a text book this is not the education model for you.

I am in my second term at WGU and I love it. I attended University of Phoenix/Axia College prior to WGU... Read More and just did not care for the constant requirements to log on and participate in chats and the cost was killing me. All of my U of P credits transferred to WGU and it is truly a self paced program. Yes, you have a mentor that calls weekly the first term and then bi-weekly once you've completed your first term, but those calls are mostly goal setting calls and if you're staying on track there's no need to avoid the phone calls. I've only needed assitance from a course mentor once and she was very helpful so I can't attest to much else about course mentors. Also, I've not had a lot of issues with my work being returned from the evaluators. I've had a few that needed revision, but the evaluators provide specific details about what is lacking so it's pretty clear what needs work.

I can also say that I've found the work load to be far more challenging than I expected and leaps and bounds more difficult than the work at U of P. I truly feel like I'm getting a well rounded education from WGU. In the end it all comes down to whether or not you can learn in a self paced, mostly self taught environment. The support is there if you need it but this isn't for someone that needs a lecture to learn and a set schedule of due dates to keep themselves on track.

I really enjoyed my experience with UoP. I know there are a lot of jokes and bad things said about the school, but it changed my life forever. I was stuck in a dead end job and was miserable almost every day after work. Almost immediately after receiving my degree I was offered a job to teach middle school mathematics. Every day is awesome and my life is so great. You're experience with this school will be what you make it. If you are motivated and do well this will pay off. The school that hired... Read More me was actually impressed that I worked full time and earned my degree at the same time. I didn't here anything negative about getting a degree from UoP. The people who complain about having a worthless degree are making excuses and blaming the wrong people. Companies don't hire a piece of paper. They hire who they feel are good, hard working people. The thought that a degree is preventing jobs is just foolish. When I read those stories I want to put a mirror up for them so they really know who to blame. If you are willing to work hard and better yourself, dive in, you won't regret it.

I am so disappointed with UOP that I don't think writing a review will even do it justice. It has nothing to do with the classes, because I think that they have been wonderful and the instructors as well. I love to ability to do everything online but that is about where my positive comments for this place stops. My first complaint is for the advisors, the people you rely on to help you though the process, the ones who are suppose to help you with all the things you don't know about going to college,... Read More like taking the right classes, the area in which you live and lastly the money part of it! The advisors are terrible. They lie, they get switched all the time. I did my entire program through UOP from the start my AA went great then my BS started and it went okay for about a year. Then I went to switch to the local college because I wasn't working any more and I thought that having the last year would be nice in an actual college setting. Well I couldn't, I could not credits, I would of needed to take to additional classes before I even started then my BS program would start. I was already half way through my BS with UOP. SO I decided to stay where I was at, which was fine. I wanted to move, UOP lied and said I could. so I moved to WA and then when I got there my advisor changed and I had a new one she said I could not live in WA and stay in that program because I would not be able to do any observation hours in WA. WHHHAT?! I moved across the country and asked on the phone if it would be okay and I was told yes, now a NEW advisor says no?! I had to move back to NM to complete my program. Or drop out and not be able to transfer credits…. At the end of my program I started student teaching which I had to find a place to do it, which is also a lie, on the student teaching application it says that the student is NOT allowed to contact the school where they are applying to do student teaching. Well I had to because NO ONE from UOP was calling. I had to figure out what teacher would let me in, that I needed ANOTHER back ground check. UOP did not tell nor did the help with any of that information, when I called or sent emails about it I would not get responses for days. There is a deadline to start student teaching or you have to wait till the next school year, I did not have time to just wait for them to do their job… Endorsements, as an educator we need to have an endorsement on our license, we do not HAVE to but its highly sought upon by employers. Well UOP doesn't offer that, another lie. When I enrolled 4 years ago I specifically asked on the phone about endorsements, well because I have had so many advisors I don't know who I asked, and I should of sent it in an email so I had proof because now my advisor called me a liar. My final complaint, the cost. I am all for getting a degree. Im so proud of myself being a single mom and completing school is awesome. The price is alarming. You know all the time you are in that you are going to have to pay it back but at the end when you have to do an exit summary of your loans you will about have a heart attack. I know I did. My advise, go to school! If you pick UOP or any school ask questions lots and lots of questions in an email so that you have a trace of them. Remember who you talk to and send it in emails. Keep track of your loans and how much you have taken out! Good Luck an education is the best investment you'll ever make.
