This school doesn't give you all the information you need the first time. In fact, after sending in notarized copies of the requested forms they rejected them because they didn't like the ID I used at the notary. Not only did I call to verify the information needed and that I would be providing before having the form filled out, but i specifically asked about my ID. Only after receiving my originals did they send me a special form with "additional" information and requirements that were not originally... Read More provided. Because of their lack of communication my FASFA which has already been approved is now not verified therefor I can't attend my class on time with the rest of my class. I jumped through there hoops in 1 days time because I was told if I didn't get it done I couldn't start my class did everything that was asked and still can't start my class. I had 2 days notice of this being needed before a holiday weekend when my classes were set to start on Monday (the holiday.) 100% do not recommend this University.

My story: This is the second program I'm enrolled in. Received a BA in different field & didn't learn much. But I needed to continue school from a brick & mortar. Only way to do that was online. After finally graduating, I decided to go back & pursue a better degree while taking it more seriously. I was able to complete all the courses I needed with a 4.0 GPA. Never been so proud. Although I am aware of the not so great education as you would receive from a brick & mortar or nonprofit, I still am planning on continue due to versatility. Hopefully this new program will be different & challenging. It suits me based from my experience, living situation, & goals. Evaluate your options. Pros: - I was able to complete the required courses with a 4.0 GPA - Boosted my overall grades & performance - Easy enrollment, you're in control of your grades, 8 week courses (no waiting for fall or spring terms like most brick & mortar). Who has time for that? Cons: - Didn't have any hands-on training or learning except from some lab homeworks & certain courses - Class is mostly on autopilot - Professors don't really help much & no great at responding to emails or messages - Discussion forums are a waste of time - Class is soley based on literature learning mostly from learning - No live interaction (like other online schools) or even recorded videos

I started this school and degree program two years ago, right as I transitioned out of the military. At first, the program and instructors seemed great, but things are starting to go downhill. It looks like they've changed the way they are structuring classes, but it is NOT in favor of military students. For example, all of my classes are 8 weeks long, and within those 8 weeks, we are required to write 8 forum posts, respond to 2 or more students on 3 or 4 separate days, write 2+ papers, do 8 homework... Read More assignments, do 8 quizzes, and take a mid-term and final exam. This is an insane amount of work for someone in the military that also has a family and other responsibilities to take care of. Furthermore, if you do not post your forum responses on 3 different days, due to the lack of accessibility to a computer in the field or on a ship, the instructors take points off of your posts. This hurts the military folk or people who try to complete most of their schoolwork in a couple days, for no reason. The school claims it shows 'participation', but how is it considered less participation to do all of your required work in 2 days, as allotted by my military schedule, than doing it on 3 or 4 days?! That is NOT military friendly. Additionally, I've come to realize that this school is NOT setting us accounting students up for success in the job market. The current job market wants entry-level accounting graduates with 3-5 years of experience in various accounting software applications. The Accounting program at AMU/APUS has us needlessly writing loads of papers on accounting subjects instead of training us in what employers want. The 35+ different papers that I have written for my degree program (4-year Accounting degree) does not mean anything to an employer. It also does not effectively teach me the material that I need to know. All of this writing on top of the forum posts and responses is useless and overkill on the accounting students. One paper per class, I understand. But 3-7 in an 8-week course is overzealous. Again, this is not setting us up for success in the accounting field. I am only finishing up degree program here because I only have four classes left and cannot transfer. But I warn other students out there that are looking at AMU/APUS to complete their degree to seriously consider looking at schools that are more considerate to working adults/families/military schedules. I regret that I have gone here now.

It is with regret and frustration that I write the following review. I am at present, a senior level student majoring in Accounting at American Military University. My current GPA is 3.9587 with two and a half classes left until I'm finished. I have had only a couple good experiences with APU/AMU Accounting courses and a mountain of bad experiences. The publisher, the school, relies on heavily for their course materials in the accounting classes, is Pearson Publishers. I have found the publishers... Read More quiz and test materials to contain errors yet each time I presented these errors to AMU, the attitude was like, so what, no publisher is perfect. The sad part is that students pay the price for these errors by way of grade point deductions. I also during one course complained when the Professor kept ignoring my requests to credit my grade, for an error on the course materials. I had sent the Professor five messages over a week long period, asking for credit. Getting no reply to my messages, I contacted the head of the schools accounting program. The latter action led to the Professor getting miffed, after which he entered my grade book and began lowering grades that had been given weeks earlier. In the end, I complained to the school's academics office, about the improper grade changes and as expected, I received no response. So basically the grades I busted my a** to get are simply worthless trash in the minds of this for profit university's staff. All along the way, I have found most of this schools accounting courses to be thrown together haphazardly. All that truly matters is that the school makes a buck. Some of the Professors truly care and work with you to make sense out of the poorly designed courses while many more of the Professors are also along for the money only. Once I am finished, I will likely not walk for the diploma as the school itself has turned what should have been a great experience, into years of nothing short of worthless s*** and horrible experiences. If you happen to be a great student looking for a great school experience and perhaps Latin Honors to boot, pick another school. This school has continually cheated me out of deserved GPA points and are well aware they did. With only two and a half courses left, there is simply no way I can earn the points back they stole from me. In the latter, my GPA was a 3.9560 before my finishing ACCT400 with a blistering 99.8% yet all that grade did was move me from a 3.9560 to a 3.9587. Do the math; there is no way I could ever begin to get the points back the school robbed me of. As I write this review, I have just begun ACCT420 and already the quizzes that are supposed to follow the textbook chapters yet stray about as far from the chapters as possible. Complaints relative to the latter will result in zero changes, and the end outcome will be another APU/AMU substandard designed course that prevents students from attaining the grade they would normally attain. In conclusion, if you're serious about your education and wish to do as well as you truly can, avoid APU/AMU. If you choose this school, you'll find yourself cheated just like me. This school is in the game of education, for a profit and nothing more. My review here has been accurate and 100% honest. It is to late for any chance at Latin Honors for myself, and I'm hoping by posting this review AMU/APU will not make it that same way for you. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs spent thousands of tax dollars on my AMU education and in return I received AMU's lousy experience, poorly designed programs and their we could give a s*** less about your efforts, attitude. To AMU I say you can shove my 3.9587 up your worthless a**** and wipe with my degree, it would be little more than a bad memory hanging on my wall. To my fellow Veterans, keep your a**** out of this school.
