Bottom Line Up Front: I finished my MA with AMU in 2015 and had no problem getting into a doctoral program. I was initially concerned about the quality of education from an online for profit university. However, I found the majority of APUS classes to be the equivalent of graduate degree instruction from traditional on-campus universities. I found their instruction regarding research methodology to be superior to equivalent courses I received during an on-campus masters program. I found some of the material dated within the program which could be frustrating at times, but this was to be expected as APUS... Read More is a regionally-accredited civilian university which must use unclassified information and information which is in the public domain. I highly recommend APUS to anyone serving on active duty in the Armed Forces. The classes are easy to fit within a busy schedule, and the instructors are usually more than glad to work with you.

I am an active-duty military member, working on my professional credentials (I graduate this summer). APUS/American Military University has been a lifesaver for working on my masters while managing a challenging full-time career. I have enjoyed access to a diverse set of peers, from other nationalities and other careers. One example was a team-based project analyzing a film, which required a different level of engagement and leadership than is typical of online courses. To balance this review, I would like to say that the education that i am getting at APUS/AMU is heavily dependent on what I devote to it. The academic rigor exists, but occasionally students display less than graduate-level performance in forums and papers. This is likely due to the lack of a live interactive venue for instruction and correction, and the lack of a GRE/GMAT requirement. Overall, the school has been productive for my career, making me competitive and knowledgable. In particular, the education has provided deeper context and background to my thoughts and actions, setting me apart from others in decision making and analysis. Thank you for this opportunity!
