I loved going here. It was very straight forward. The bureaucracy of the school is made up of individuals who are not self starters. You have to stay on them (calling/emailing over and over). Outside of that aspect, it was a really great school. Cheap classes ($1000 a class for masters whereas my undergraduate was $2000 a class). The grading was fair, etc. I learned a lot. The classes are very cookie cuter. You have to understand that the rules of the assignment dictate at least 30% of your grade.... Read More So if you want to make As/b+s you have to read the rules carefully and follow along. Classes changed formats from class to class. One would be APA 6 the next Turbain, the next APA 6. That aspect made no sense at all. I put in the work, made good grades, got the degree. I liked the school. You can comment on here with questions, I'll write you back. JGP

This degree program---American Military University, which functions through American Public University System---worked for me because I was able to work as active duty military (US Air Force) and get my degree online with other active duty personnel. My classmates were all extremely educated, because they were all active duty, doing hands-on work with the subjects we addressed in class; for example, in my Central Asia class, I had a Tech Sergeant actually stationed in Kyrgyzstan, who I was able to... This degree program allowed me to complete my Masters while on a remote tour to Greenland; in transition between Vandenberg Air Force Base in California to Peterson AFB in Colorado; on deployment to Afghanistan, as well as the month I spent in Kyrgyzstan while we waited for the airlines to bid on a contract to fly us home. The down side to an online degree is, of course, not really getting into debates with other students, which is so very central to any political science degree.

I was an online student only. The 8-week courses and the fact you could start at the beginning of each month made this a very good program. The online classroom environment was a little hard to get used to. The interaction with the other students and instructors was top-notch. There are some very experienced, knowledgeable people taking the online courses at APUS. I learned a great deal from classmates who were active duty military members, many stationed around the world. Another positive aspect... Read More of APUS is the cost. Although it went up some during the two years I "attended," it was still very affordable.

The program itself, I felt, was quality education taught from highly qualified professionals. I received my MA in Political Science, concentration Intelligence Studies, and all of my professors had some type of experience in the intellgience field with great academic credentials. My peers were all excellent to interact with and overall I had a great experience. Read More list it on my resume or CV is that it is not taken seriously. I have since then received a second masters from one institution and am receiving a third from Georgetown. The quality of education and course work is on par with those other institutions. Hopefully the stigma of online education will change soon at which point I would highly reccomend this institution as a great choice.
