Arizona State University (ASU) was my first choice for graduate school. My major is Special Education and I am in the dual certification program at ASU Polytechnic. I will be receiving my certification in General Education as well as Special Education. I had already received my bachelors degree from ASU at the Tempe campus but now I am enamored with ASUs Polytechnic campus. Not only did the Polytechnic campus have my desired degree program, they have given me advice on my student loan situation.... Read More The class sizes are small, the professors know you by name, the parking is a breeze, and the location in East Mesa is convenient for me. I cannot say enough about the parking. There is no need for a shuttle ride as there are plenty of open lots close to classrooms and I have never been unable to find a parking space. I had car trouble one evening on campus; I felt safe waiting by my car for the auto service to arrive. The campus is quiet and has plenty of security officers and call boxes. The classrooms are clean and well-appointed with all classrooms having at least one computer and a large projection screen, while many rooms have multiple student computers available. There is an abundance of electrical outlets for charging phones and lap tops. The campus has a student union area with a coffee shop, bookstore, and restaurants. There are clean and plentiful bathrooms throughout the campus. The professors available are from the Tempe and ASU West campuses as well as Polytechnic and are top of the line. My only problem with ASU Polytechnic is that they do not offer as many degrees as the Tempe campus. Another issue I have is with ASU in general. They are promoting shortened hybrid classes. I would prefer classes to last 15 weeks instead of 7.5 and have less of an online component. I learn more by being able to discuss topics in real time, rather than wait for people to post responses online. However, I would recommend ASU Polytechnic for any student looking for a more personalized level of intensive instruction, quieter campus, and suitable amenities.

I have nothing but praise for the ASU online masters in special education program. I just enrolled and the enrollment process was painless. They assigned me with an enrollment coordinator who walked me through every step of the application process. Once my application was approved, I was immediately assigned an academic advisor who helped me immensely with the course registrations. The financial aid office was very helpful with all my questions and helped me navigate the FAFSA process, as well as... Read More directing me to eligible scholarship and grants. I have rated the student diversity/campus safety as 1 stars because it is not applicable in an online setting, and there is no N/A choice.

As an adult returning to college to complete my degree in special education I found the program and courses that were offered by Arizona State to be superb and and the instructors to be knowledgeable in their craft. I feel that I left the program fully prepared to be a special education teacher in Arizona. I am now returning to ASU this semester to complete my Masters in Educational Leadership, so I can become a principal. I am excited for what lies ahead for me at Arizona State and in the future... The ASU InMAC program is Special Education allows students without an undergraduate degree in education to work as teachers while they earn their master's degree. This classroom experience has been invaluable to me and the support that I have gotten from my mentor professor is better than I could have ever expected. The coursework that I am given is immediately applicable to my career in education. I also believe that the use of portfolio assessments in this program is a much better indicator of... Read More what I have learned than traditional assessments. The professors are invested in our learning and always assessable when we need them. While overall I am satisfied with the program, I have difficulty affording the tuition on a teacher's salary and have not gotten much support from financial aid. I also feel that ASU could do more to provide networking opportunities for students, particularly as a non-traditional student. That being said, I would recommend this program to anyone interested in an alternative track to a career in education.

The pros of the graduate programs at ASU is that you are paying state based tuition. However, you're only able to receive one type of graduate student loan unless you apply for a direct plus loan. You have to have excellent credit for this or parents. As a graduate student I cannot apply for the grad plus loans. The only loan I receive is through Salle Mae and is only for $10,500.
