I opted for an online grad program for the flexibility as most do. My husband works in hospitality and we move around for his job frequently. I throughly enjoyed my online courses. I learned masters level social work skills from all my professors and even with their online restrictions, the courses were very engaging as well as educational. However, I would NOT recommend this online program to individuals who move frequently. The advising office does not have your best interest. I will say that they... Read More were severely understaffed, but it was impossible to get a hold of anyone over the phone and extremely difficult to get an email response. Appointments had to be booked 3-4 weeks in advance. I had a cumulative 4.0 GPA in the last semester of my program. I had turned the 2 year full-time program into a three and half year program after moving around so much and not finding internships in time. Field placement agencies are very limited and I found that most agencies I called in my area had affiliations with the local colleges and did not want to go through the contract process for one student. I finally found my last field placement and asked the advising office if I could complete my final internship and co-requisite course as a block placement in one semester, being that that was all I had left to complete. Even though I had never gotten anything short of an A- in all of my courses, the advising office made the executive decision that my final two courses were too much of a workload for me to complete in one semester. Needless to say, I was forced to complete my final course and field placement in two semesters while my husband moved to his new location for work, because they did not allow me to complete a block placement. We pay so much for our education and it should be up to our own discretion what we can and cannot handle. I was very displeased with their lack of concern for the needs of their students. Once again, I would NOT recommend this program to someone who will be moving frequently or need flexibility for life changing circumstances.

If you are a night owl, stay up all night and chip away at your readings! I have made quality connections with classmates, instructors, and feel prepared to be a master level social worker. ASU was willing to work with me and make my education possible despite making a cross country move. This would not have been an option in my previous MSW program, and I am so thankful for the support ASU provided me. I transferred to Arizona State after a family emergency left me relocating from Florida to North Carolina, where my former MSW program would not accept my NC residency for the program. ASU's MSW was willing to consider accepting more graduate transfer credits than most (30 hours) and that highly influenced my decision. The program academics have been thorough and rigorous so far, however they ended up only accepting 21 of my 34 transfer credits which really set me back. Also, though they have a large... Read More online contingent, they did not offer any online classes during the summer which would help me advance my degree, ultimately requiring me to sit out a semester and double up during the Fall and Spring. That was a bit of a let down as well. In the end, however, ASU helped me keep my goal of obtaining an MSW alive despite personal obstacles and for that I am grateful.

Enrolling in Arizona State University's online program for my Masters in Social Work has allowed me to continue my education while remaining in the workforce full-time and also being a single parent. The ASU Online Social work program is awesome. It lets you work at your own pace but still has challenging assignments to get your prepared for real work. I originally chose the online MSW program at Arizona State because I needed an online program, and wanted to ensure my degree was from a legitimate university. Additionally, I was impressed by the fees in comparison to other universities that I located with online programs. Unfortunately, immediately after starting classes I found out that the per unit costs and other tuition fees were increasing significantly, and I now question if I would have still chosen ASU if I had been made aware of the new... Arizona State University has been very supportive towards my goal of becoming a Licensed Social Worker. You are assigned a success coach who works with you to achieve your goal. This was completely different from the online program I transferred from at Walden University. The classes are short (7.5 weeks), which pushes you to be a better graduate student. The School of Social Work has its strong points and areas that could use improvement. The school has great ties to the Tucson community and a wide variety of internship possibilities. This has been the best and most helpful part of my education. There are also night classes available for students who are working or have other responsibilities during the day.
