Mainly a commuter school, seemed to be short on money since faculty constantly complain about it. Do not offer majority of classs claim to, likely not doing well financially. For me its a nightmare- lab is 45min Drive away due to lack of infrastructure, basically no student life and is a ghost town. Graduate student community is completely fake news. Not a place for smart people, your college experience will be mostly driving and solitude since most grad students are parents. Wish I never came here.... Read More Programs are not ranked well to say the very least. Can not recommend, find a different school is the best advice I can give. A few teachers really care though and make is less awful. Objectively, it is mainly a commuter and night school for nearby students working full time with little student life for undergrads and none for grad students, despite what their website says.

As a graduate student, FAU was an absolute disappointment, especially when comparing it to my experiences at other universities. The admin, HR, transportation department and budget office are disorganized, rude, and non-operational. The stipend given to Master's students is below the poverty line in Boca Raton (and surrounding cities), they provided $12,900/year, with $3,000 taken away for student fees (something that was not mentioned before I moved there to attend). Read More (possibly the rudest person I've ever met), regularly did not pay TA's on time, and when asked about getting paid (because of students needs to pay bills/rent etc), her answer was to stop e-mailing her, there were too many of us. WOW! So few classes are offered each semester, that you really only get to pick between this class or that class; and of the courses offered, about 80% of them are online or hybrid and out of date (one of my instructors was lecturing during the Bush administration which he refers to in the video). Only one of my classes (I took 40 credits) as an in person, traditional class. Not to mention the technology fails to work most of the time. This created an in ability to see/hear the instructor, which makes learning difficult. I had a class that had an issue EVERY SINGLE class for the entire semester and the tech team said they couldn't fix it. I brought it up to administration, and they said it's a way to make money from a broader geographic range. You are forced to pay a $100 "transportation fee" even if you don't own a car, additionally, in the transportation fee you are told "you are not guaranteed a place to park", which happens everyday at 9:30am. Get there any later, and there will be no spaces, but because you have a parking pass sticker, you're not allowed to park at metered spaces. The campus is largely concrete, and fails to take advantage of the beauty that Florida's climate can offer. Instead it's concrete, sod, and hip hop music being blasted through the common walkway or "the breezeway." Overall, I was disappointed, underpaid and don't recommend FAU to anyone. It's also disappointing that I brought all of my concerns up to those in charge, and they did not seem to care or what to change. I feel 100% that FAUs priority is as a business and not as a university. If you want a good education and want to be treated well (or at least okay) than I suggest you Find Another University (FAU)
