I enrolled in Florida Atlantic University's Advanced Standing Master of Social Work Program earlier this year after graduating from FAU in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Social Work. I have one more semester before obtaining an MSW degree. Since I am planning to work in the substance abuse field, I am interning at a local treatment center. The clinical experience I am getting is incredible. I facilitate group sessions, counsel clients, write treatment plans, progress notes and much more. While... Read More

The Masters of Social Work program at Florida Atlantic University is an excellent program that provides different opportunities to learn how to be the best social worker one can be. The program is a clinic based one that focuses on real world experiences and at least 800 hours of field experience. The university also allows one to take the classes part-time or full-time, which is perfect if people are currently working in the social work field. I would recommend Florida Atlantic University to anyone... Read More

Florida Atlantic University is not only located in a beautiful area but it provides students with the tools necessary to succeed in the real world upon graduating. The professors are welcoming and understanding that students have occasional struggles and are willing to work with you, which makes them approachable. Th course load for the MSW program is interesting and thought provoking, and for a student who didn't get their BSW in Social Work I feel I will be well prepared to enter the field upon... Read More

I completed both my BSW and my MSW from Florida Atlantic University. All of the staff have been in the field of social work or are currently in the field. The professors are highly knowledgeable and have worked with a variety of populations. I would highly recommend this program to any student that wants to enter into the profession of social work.

My education was diverse and prepared me for many pathways in social work. Advising was included in field courses which is not the case in all universities. I started working the day after I graduated as I attended a career fair on campus that lead to my first placement. GO Owls!

I graduated from Florida Atlantic University in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Social Work. I will begin FAU's Advanced Standing MSW program in May. I believe FAU's BSW program prepared me for generalist practice in the world of Social Work. Since I would like to work as a substance abuse counselor, I am now pursuing a Master's degree. From my experience over the last year and a half, FAU has a top notch program. The faculty is fantastic and genuinely cares. They are very willing to help and want... Read More

I am currently a graduate student at Florida Atlantic University, and I am going into my second year of my program. As an undergraduate student I also attended this wonderful university. It is located in the Sunshine State of Florida, where the weather and the blue skies on campus never disappoint. This institution is warm and welcoming. FAU has opened doors for my future that I could have never imagined. It has given me a career that will help me to assist individuals through counseling. The School... Read More

Florida Atlantic University is a wonderful school with so much diversity. The social work program that I am a part of has aided me in becoming the best social worker I believe I can be. The professors genuinely care about your learning and your well being, and the internship programs that the school of social work puts you through really helps jump-start your future as a social worker. I wouldn't have traded my education for any other university. I am excited to learn more in my masters program!

Pros: -Super clinically focused to prepare you to become an LCSW - I was worried that I wouldn't get a ton of micro (one-on-one) counseling education, and that it was going to be exclusively systems and macro focused, which is one of the reasons I considered an MHC instead... but I'm super glad I went in this direction instead because the degree is much more broadly applicable, typically favored in hospital and treatment settings, and billable to more insurance providers including Medicare -Professors... The Programs entice you to provide feedback and build a support network with the professors. It is my first year at FAU, and I love it. It is a lot of paper writing, but hard work. They make it challenging but feasible.

The workload is not overwhelming, but the program is very laid back. Overall I feel that the program is really what you make out of it. You can get involved and learn a lot, but you can slide by without having to. I am not sure the second option is worth your time. Boca is a pretty area that is a little expensive

I'm a part time student in the Advanced Standing program. Great internships, and very accommodating staff who work hard to meet your needs to help you complete the program. You can start out part time and switch to full time later. Also, you can take extra electives as long as you get the core requirements done. Downside is lack of classes on macro social work, lack of research opportunities for students, and the better electives are only held in the summer semester.

I love my program. The only con is not having enough time as a full time student, but it teaches us time management skills. These skills that we will need for the rest of our lives.

Some of these classes are not well structured and at worst feel like a waste of time, which is mostly a problem with the adjunct professors. The full time faculty are usually great. This is a big commuter school, so the campus life is lacking, but I believe FAU makes many accommodations for nontraditional students, which is rare. Boca Raton is beautiful during the winter and very hot during the summer. The city is a little strange and the cost of living is high, but it has everything you could ever... Read More

I feel that the staff, both teachers and administrative do not know what is going on in the program. The summer offers a lot of interesting electives, and then come spring and fall only 3 electives are offered. In my program I do not attend courses in the summer, I am very limited on the electives I can take. None of the staff is able to answer my questions. Everyone is on different pages. The teachers are decent in comparison to the amazing teachers I met at UCF's Social Work program.

I absolutely love the graduate program of Social Work at FAU. The program is encompassing all aspects of social work. We will have the opportunity to work with nursing students in a side by side project, this will help us out in the real world because of the complexity in workers we will deal with. This program really combines all aspects that need to prepare a student to become a Social Worker.
