Instructors tell you one thing and do another. Very inconsistent. You are on your on in this program. I would suggest the faculty meet with each other so they are all on the same page as to what is expected. Program has potential, just need to be organized with clear instructions.

Degree: Psychology

Overall, I really enjoyed the Psychology program at Northwestern University of Louisiana. There were a few classes that I felt could have been instructed better, but there were also some absolutely amazing professors that truly showed us how we could apply the knowledge in practice. I feel that some of the problems could be fixed if the program had more funding.
For the college as a whole, a few notes: the housing is expensive and maintenance was difficult to work with sometimes but overall I enjoyed... Read More

The campus is beautiful, and there is always some activities happening. There are many avenues to get involved in such as the campus radio, the newspaper, the year book committee, and several interest groups like the gamers' guild. The campus offers a variety of degree programs. The ones that I recall were a hit were business, education, the arts, and medicine. The faculty at the creative and performing arts department are very knowledgeable and supportive to their students. The facilities are often... Read More

I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from here and it was a great experience. My instructors were professional and the tuition wasn't overpriced. Further, the admissions staff and advisors were very personable and helped me through every step until I graduated. Hence, I was able to speak to the same people who followed my progress throughout my duration as an online student. I would recommend their program to anyone seeking a school that helps you every step of the way.

Degree: Counseling

Someone else wrote that the professors are too busy to help students back in 2013. It hasnt changed. You are on your own in this program and you are on your own finding internships. One professor is so disorganized that you are always confused and lost in his classes and when you ask questions, he acts like you should just be figuring things out on your own and "chilling out". He can barely talk in class...hes always looking up at the ceiling and takes 10 minutes to say what he is trying to say.... Read More

Northwestern State is fantastic. The staff is very welcoming, and available for distance-learning students as well as students attending on campus. The school sponsors a thorough orientation program, and prepares students for the coursework requirements of the program.

Northwestern State University HHP program is aligning me with the necessary skills and information to excel after I walk across the stage. The administration has been very supportive since I have stepped foot on campus. The community is small and family-oriented, I love my school.

LSC at Northwestern State is an experience in which you get out what you put into it. Like at any college, you can choose to party or procrastinate, improve your social life, not take academics seriously, but when it gets down to it, your friends will graduate and you won't. If you like a challenge, small class sizes, open-minded discussion, learning about culture and how you fit into it, LSC might be for you. If you put forth effort towards your education and learn from your professors and classmates... Read More

I attend the Northwestern State University's School of Nursing in Shreveport and not the main campus in Natchitoches. There are a few benefits in attending the smaller but more specialized branch. These include but are not limited to easier access to faculty, more academic competitiveness, increased educational quality that comprises a valuable graduate program. However, in gaining these benefits we surrender to a smaller student diversity and social life activities. I feel the trade off is worth... Read More

Northwestern State University of Louisiana is a great stepping stone program for students interested in pursuing their doctorate in clinical psychology. The professors sincerely care about their students' well-being and futures. You are able to get hand on experiences with psychotherapy during their wide variety of externship sites. Some of the cons to this program come from the size of Natchitoches. There is not a whole lot of things to do when it comes to socializing and the lack of resources means... Read More

I am very blessed to have graduated from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in May of 2009. The faculty went above-and-beyond their "call of duty" to help me with my educational and musical endeavors. During my two-year graduate studies, I had support from my committee, the School of Music, and students, alike. After graduation, I still have continued aid from the music faculty. They truly care to see you accomplish your career goals. I know I could contact any of the faculty, at any time,... Read More

This place is a great isolated pocket of musical development and training for performers and teachers. The isolation works to their advantage in that they are able to shut out the distractions of city life. The downside is that this small pocket can become set in their own ways if they don't make sure to include outside influences, faculty and students alike.

I absolutely love Northwestern State University! It has been an amazing experience throughout my college years, and now my graduate years too. The faculty are extremely helpful and work with you on educational problems, but also are very reasonable to work with when conflicts occur due to medical/work reasons. After attending NSU LA, I would not consider attending another university!
