What I liked most about the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Alternative Master's Program in Elementary Education is the realistic job outlook that the professors provided for us teacher candidates. Read More their own knowledge and be inquisitive; thus, every course required us to observe in a local elementary school to witness what a true day in the life of an educator looks like. We also got the opportunity to teach whole and small group shared reading, guiding reading, read-alouds, number talks, and 5E science lessons to students from various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.

UAB is an excellent school that caters greatly to the health professions. I majored in Biological Sciences and really had some amazing teachers (and tough) who I will never forget. They do a wonderful job of making sure you understand the material they teach and having back up support if what is taught in class is not enough. And the campus is very easy to navigate, I never had any trouble finding my classes. Most students on campus are very friendly and very willing to help you around. My only drawback... Read More is the major that I picked. If you plan on getting another higher education degree in medicine, nursing, optometry, etc. then a degree in biology works just fine and will give you a good jumpstart in getting into any of those schools. A biology degree by itself does not attract great paying jobs unless your intention is to work in a lab or become a teacher of science. Generally speaking my UAB experience was great!

Additionally, I am impressed with the accessibility and responsiveness of the staff members in regards to students' questions and needs. There is a transparent list of contacts provided to each student, along with detailed instructions for the enrolling process. When making decisions about furthering my education, I was initially uncertain about a program that is not held in a traditional "brick and morter" facility. However, I am so very pleased with the UAB online graduate program thus far. As this program was recommended to me from various alumnus, I too would recommend it to any student looking to pursue a graduate nursing degree.

The University of Alabama in Birminghams Physician Assistant program has found a place in my heart for five key reasons. In the state of Alabama, UAB PA graduates are preferentially hired over graduates from other programs. Employers conveyed a preference for UAB graduates, citing unsurpassed professionalism and preparedness on the first day. For many employers, the learning curve for UAB graduates to fulfill their roles within the practice was significantly shorter, on average, than other hires. The faculty and staff are just as, if not more, invested in the success of their students as the students themselves are. According to the PA Program Admissions Director, attrition levels are remarkably low. In addition, first time pass rates for the PANCE is almost perfect. This is a testament to the dedication of the faculty and staff. I have had opportunity to meet several faculty members at UAB. With each encounter, I was impressed with how sincere and invested the professors were in developing their students. The instructors seemed wear the ability to both challenge and bring out the best in their students as badge of pride. It was selfless. From my experience, teaching was not a means to an end for these instructors, but rather a purpose for them. The UAB PA program offers a surgical specialty. There are only a handful of programs in the nation that can offer a surgical specialty. UAB has gone to great lengths to prepare their students as surgical specialists. They have a state of the art "pig lab" where surgical procedures are completed using live pigs! In addition, students are required to take multiple surgical clinical rotations. Whether graduates work in a surgical field or not, having quality surgical experience is an asset for any physician assistant. The UAB PA program also offers the opportunity for a dual masters degree in both Physician Assistant studies and in Public Health with an emphasis in Health Care Organization and Policy. A dual masters degree in both Public Health and Physician Assistant studies is another way that UAB broadens opportunities for their graduates. As the demand for providers increases, so will the demand for providers who can understand populations, demographics, and policy at the macro level. There will be a need for Physician Assistants to become members of hospital boards and organizations that affect health care policy. The dual degree will open that opportunity. When I considered how highly reputable the UAB PA Program is, how involved the faculty and staff are, the amount of opportunity there is, and how inspiring each experience on the UAB campus is, I knew that UAB was the right choice for me and believe it will be the right choice for you, dear reader. I entered the PA field older than the typical applicant. Therefore, I fully appreciate importance of giving myself the best opportunity for success and excellence. I intend to be an expert in my field and I know, without a doubt, that UAB is the best opportunity to achieve that goal.

In addition, the quality of education I am receiving is phenomenal. I feel that my knowledge base has increased exponentially and can only expect it to increase as I complete my time at UAB. If you're looking to get an advanced nursing degree, you cannot do better than UAB.
