I am currently a graduate student at The University of Alabama, pursuing a Master of Social Work degree. I am receiving my education through their MSW distance learning program. So far, each and every staff/faculty member I have worked with has been more than helpful. UA's School of Social Work is truly there to assist students in becoming life long learners, who are equipped to empower, advocate, and advance others in society. It also doesn't hurt that UA has recently spent a lot of time on creating an even more up-to-date atmosphere for those studying in Little Hall (SW building). UA has also made valiant and extremely important efforts to team up against human trafficking, sexual assault, and topics related to the world-wide slavery epidemic. UA has received grant money to combat this issue and has also teamed-up with the DA's office to expand education for those wanting to pursue a career in criminal justice and political advocacy. Hands down, UA is WHERE LEGENDS ARE MADE!

DO NOT take the online MSW program! I cannot emphasize this enough, DO NOT take the online MSW program! From day 1 I've had nothing but trouble from the adjunct professors not responding to messages for weeks at a time, going the entire semester not grading papers, problems with the curriculum not loading/working, quizzes based on past edition text books or answers being marked wrong (although they are word for word correct in the textbooks and professors refused to change grades), instructions for... Read More assignments missing (and of course absentee professors won't respond to messages for weeks, so you fail these assignments because you don't know what you are supposed to do!) The courses are pre-loaded every semester, with the professors having no idea what you are taking/text book you are using/what course assignments look like, etc. It is very common to be "assigned" one professor when registering, then see another name on the syllabus. One semester my professor "changed" 4 times in the first month! I'm on my third semester and I've had it, I'm dropping out of the University and transferring to another program that will accept most of my credits. I've spoken with 2 on-campus students who had thoroughly enjoyed the program, and one who did first year in person & second year online (same problems), but every student taking it online that I know right now is planning/considering dropping out and/or struggling. Previous graduates of the same program have the same complaints about technical issues that we did, and 3 and 4 years later they are still not fixed. These issues are brought to the attention of the Dean every semester, and yet nothing has changed. Perhaps because the Dean has changed 3 times in the last 3 years? Oh yes, and at orientation they go through a slide show really quickly of what you are supposed to take each semester, and that is the exclusivity of your academic adviser. There ARE NO academic advisers for the online program!!! This curriculum seriously needs to be fixed, this is an embarrassment to a great University! For $1,100 a class (in-state tuition) you would expect better quality.
