The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaigne (UIUC) is probably one of the best schools that I could have gone to. I loved UIUC, and it's the educational environment. The school is rigorous, and they will make you into stellar candidates for medical school, graduate school, and for future jobs. I believe that they are exceptionally well rounded and have a plethora of opportunities that you, as a student can take advantage of during your time there, although the cons are the cost. UIUC one of the... Read More most expensive in-state big ten schools compared to others. The price is around to be 25,000 a year in tuition, but the Champaigne/Urbana Area is cheap to live in. Other than that, you should become an Illini. The psychology program is top excellent and is ranked consistently within the top 15 for undergraduate and top 10 for graduate programs int he country for clinical psychology. If you intend to be a psychology major, you should go to UIUC.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is truly the all encompassing college experience. Living away from home, it really gives a sense of adulthood between having to take care of yourself and balancing school work and a social life. It really mimics the adult life that comes afterwards. The classes and professors themselves were intelligent and helpful, (while there is always that one that isn't, overall my professors were grand) and the campus was amazing. The architecture and interwoven... Read More nature was beautiful. The campus life was fascinating as well. Imagine a town run by young adults. Everywhere you went, there weren't many adults. Sure, the owner of the Jimmy Johns was around, but if you went into the shop, or the bookstore, or the bar, everyone there is mostly your age. It was an interesting but unique feeling. I would recommend UIUC to anyone as long as you can bear the cold Illinois weather!

As someone who studied psychology with the intent of going on to graduate school, the UIUC psychology department served me very well. I believe that your school experience is whatever you make it. There are plenty of opportunities to network, explore academic and professional opportunities, and, essentially, become the sort of person you truly want to be; However, YOU have to make all of this happen. Be willing to put yourself out there, admit when you do not know something, meet new people and ditch... Read More the ones holding you back. This school has definitely helped strengthen not only my academic and professional abilities, but also my confidence as a leader and self-starter. I'm moving on this year to earn my graduate degree in Texas, and I know I wouldn't be so lucky to afford these future endeavors were it not for the experiences I've had and people I've met at the University of Illinois.

UIUC is overall a very good school. I am happy that I chose it to get my degree. In general, the faculty is excellent, with many intelligent, personable professors doing good research and teaching good classes. There are a lot of opportunities for students to participate in research as well, if desired. A couple of potentially negative aspects are that there is a huge drinking/partying culture there, with a ton of fraternities and sororities, and house parties going on all the time, so if someone... Read More is not interested in that, it might not be the best option in terms of social environment. Also, some classes/programs are too large for their own good, resulting in a somewhat sub-par classroom environment and experience. It's hard to genuinely learn when you are in a lecture of 150 people and the grade for the semester consists of four multiple choice tests. But overall you get a good education and there are a lot of opportunities to get involved in any extracurricular activity you can think of.
