This can be a good school, but you have to make sure you choose the right professor. For example, there is this professor named Stephen Pew, who is disrespectful, rude, and is always on a power trip. He gives student's terrible grades if they speak out against him and he wants you to focus on his class only which can hurt your grades in other classes. Absolutely the worst academic institution. Makes its money off of service members and its family but the degree isn't worth the price of toilet paper. The Air Force wouldn't even accept my Master's in Healthcare Administration. That's right the US. Air Force wouldn't even accept a master's degree from this "military friendly" institution. This university is for those who just want to fulfill their requirements for the Post-9/11 benefits or those who simply want a degree to place on their resume. Even at the graduate level, the the standards are non-existent. In short, you turn in an assignment, even if it is a disaster, it will be an "A". The only class I completed at the school was the Graduate Studies class that is required for all Master's programs. This class was extremely easy. Got an A very easily. If your program (graduate or undergraduate) is something technical like Cybersecurity THE COURSE CONTENT SHOULD INVOLVE TECHNICAL SKILLS AND NOT CONTINUOUSLY WRITING ESSAYS. Writing ability is important. However, people who work in this field do not spend their ENTIRE time writing research essays. There has to be some technical knowhow. This blew my mind. My program is Health Informatics Administration so I know there's no hope for me. I'm not going to learn any programming languages by writing essays. I was expecting to supplement my programming skills outside of this graduate program after getting the basics from class. I now know this would not have been the case and I would have been very disappointed. This degree program is useless even though it's accredited. I'm now applying to a brick and mortar school in my state that has a good reputation. And I'm going for straight up Health Informatics (still totally online). I only spent $50 for the application fee, $75 for the one class I took (because it's 0 credit hours), and now however much for my transcript for said class so I can apply to a real school and get a Master's degree that holds true value. The second week was a 500 word essay draft. Third week was turning in the final version of the essay. Fourth week was 1,000 word essay draft. Fifth week was turning in the final version of the essay. Sixth week was another discussion assignment of the same format, but different topic. Again...there was no lecture and no textbooks. All materials were online YouTube videos and how to's in the library..etc.

If you are seeking to start a career in Healthcare this degree may be a waste of time and money. Despite telling my advisor that I needed to be employable immediately upon completion and that I have a passion for Healthcare, she used her well memorized selling points to help guide my decision to this program. Prior to graduation I began applying for entry level and mid-level positions. I quickly learned that my more than twenty years of employment experience was irrelevant since it was not in Healthcare.... Again, you apparently need experience to get experience. Five years after graduation I have given up applying for positions am settling for my 32k/year job which is well beneath my skill sets. UMUC is a great school. The curriculum is challenging but I believe that overall it forces you to learn the information. I am not happy about that fact that they did away with text books though. I guess this was a decision that was made in order that they can remain competitive with almost all other online colleges who have done away with textbooks. I obtained my associates and bachelors from this school as well. Sometimes the instructors can be a little too strict on the assignments requirements... I know some students who have obtained degrees from other online schools and they still don't even know how to format a research paper in APA style. I am grateful for UMUC because when I was on active duty stationed in Iraq and Kuwait, I was able to continue my education with them online. There accessibility to military personnel when they are deployed or otherwise stationed outside of the United States is awesome.

Initially, I was concerned about taking online courses as this was my first time taking academic courses completely online. I have had an exceptional experience with the financial aid and academic advising offices. Whenever I had a question or issue regarding my financial aid or scholarships, the staff at UMUC's financial aid office were always quick to respond and remedy the problem. I transferred from Morgan State University to the University of Maryland Baltimore County for my undergraduate studies... Read More where I always had a difficult time getting an appointment with an academic advisor and the financial aid office was impossible. At UMUC I have received phone calls and follow up emails from the academic advising staff asking about the progress of my courses. I have never attended a school where the staff went out of their way to inquire about a student's progress. That really makes me feel as though UMUC personnel really cares about its students and their academic success. Additionally, I have had some amazing professors in that they still provided me with challenging coursework and forced me to step outside of my comfort zone. I have gained some valuable skills that I have no doubt will prove to be beneficial as I begin my career search. I would highly recommend the University of Maryland University College to any student looking to be challenged.

University of Maryland University College is a twelve week online semester. Each professor provides a syllabus with a detailed explanation of what is expected over the semester. I entered the Healthcare Administration graduate program on January 2014, after graduating from a 4-year traditional university that previous fall. I'm taken 6 of the 12 courses needed toward my Master's (NOT in business), had a 4.0 (and yes, I will agree it's a rigorous program and nothing wrong with that) until I had to take a finance course that was completely ridiculous, way, way too in depth for those without a finance background and absolutely no help from the instructor or the so-called "tutor": I'd post a question about homework and it would take 4-6 days to get a reply which usually wasn't even responsive to the question asked.
