I think the academics at USC Rossier are strong, but the online MA for Teaching Certification is absurdly expensive. I ended up transferring to another online program that was a fraction of the cost. Rossier blows up the tuition costs for no good reasons. The USC name has status, but teaching at the K-12 level is not directly tied to the status of the graduate institution attended and so it is not necessary to pay $90,000 when the teaching certification might be almost as good for just $5000. Rossier... Read More

Many are afraid or skeptical of attending an online degree program, however the University of Southern California (USC) provides all of the same benefits to online students as they would to students on campus. The same high quality teachers and instruction are provided. Instruction is conducted in a flipped classroom format where you complete your reading assignments and PowerPoint lecture before the live online session where you discuss what you have read. Teachers make themselves available through... Read More

The education program at the University of California was a great experience. Although it was online, the program was a very thorough and hands on. All of my professors were very knowledgeable and helpful and I met some great people through the program. The only downfall is that it was very expensive.

I much prefer my undergrad experience at the university of California Santa Barbara. Usc was really competitive and located in a rough part of town.

This school is very expensive, but its reputation pays for itself. The university's name is great on my resume. The professors were fantastic, and I did feel I received a strong education. I wish the career specialists were more helpful in providing guidance after graduation, though.

My graduate program at USC helped me develop personally and professionally. I am able to use counseling techniques learned from the program on a daily basis to support students from all backgrounds and walks of life in achieving their academic goals.

I have only just started this program and I am in love. The support system has been amazing from the very beginning during the application process. The biggest pro is that the program is now offered online. Even though I live in Southern California, I did not have to worry about moving. The online program is like being in the class on campus. It is very interactive and virtual. The program, like many graduate programs, did not offer much scholarships or grants. The program is one of the best in the... Read More

So far, I have experienced no cons in my graduate program. I will study online for a Masters in TESOL and the support from staff so far has been fantastic. I can't wait to get started.

One serious flaw in the MAT program is that it assumes that all current students have taught, or are currently teaching in a classroom, and all the skills that go along with that experience. The students are expected to be familiar with classroom protocol, terminology, and the skills that make up day-to-day teaching (like making a lesson plan). This causes the students who are not teachers to feel left behind, and adversely affects their grades. The only other serious problem with the MAT program... Read More

The pros of my Masters of Teaching program are the following: Flexibility, professor quality and credentials and great academic guidance toward degree completion. The one main con of my program is the cost. The cost of tuition seems to have doubled since I started the program.

There are definitely more pros than cons with USC's Rossier's School of Education. I am currently a MAT online student (M.A Teaching) and I must say the quality of education is off the charts. The teachers and staff hold up high expectations and the learning that takes place is very challenging to say the least. This is not your typical online class where you can slack off and play catch up. The classes are virtual classrooms in which the teachers actually take attendance and may call on you to respond... The pros of the MAT program at USC are that you are provided with professional and experienced teachers who actually know how to teach. They are available when you need to reach them. You can call them and they will answer (I had a professor who answered my call while she was at a McDonald's drive in). Although the program is ridiculously expensive (the greatest con of all), there are many support systems (online support groups, webinars etc) that will help you meet your highest potential and also... I am a student in the MAT program, and love it! The professors are wonderful, the students are great, and the course diversity and workload are beneficial to the degree.
