I have attended a technical college for nursing, an on campus university for teaching, and now online for psychology. I chose online because I live in the middle of nowhere-the nearest college is over 45 miles from my home. This is the most intense education I have received. I am forced to interact with my classmates with substantive conversations and minimum word count. During my other times in school, it was irrelevent if I ever met my classmates. I have minimally one quiz and one test in each... Read More class weekly. The amount of studying for these is mind boggling.

I do not have to schedule a meeting with my professors-I have a private chatroom for only the two of us and they reply to anything I post within 24 hours-most within a couple of hours. They are available by telephone as well. My advisors call or email regularly and I look forward to their calls.

When I graded the school from Terrible to Fantastic, they received Fantastic in all but Job Placement Services. They cannot be held responsible for that because the field I chose has limited opportunities.

What they have done however is help me with preparation for qualifying for anything should the opportunity arise-from resume preparation to making sure, and helping me to through the difficult paths to be sure I am certified in my state and meet all the requirements for the positions my degree qualifies me for-in addition to an excellent education-a five star education.

The Academy of Art is an institution that has great customer service to wheel you in, but they don鈥檛 deliver in assisting the students to a career. It is very appealing artistically to the students, and it has great fashionable glamour鈥檚 charm with the latest software and applications. The courses are... Read More very long with ridiculous and superfluous projects and modules that are not academically appropriate. Most of these courses are not transferable and when I left this university to attend for a bachelor鈥檚 degree, most of my classes were useless. I left the university after being given an 鈥渇鈥� for two classes that I had participated and completed all class assignments. I complained and filled grievances, and they did not respond to my request and concerns or e-mails. My classmates were chock that I received the bad grade and my tutor who work with me through the entire course was also chocked! This institution has no integrity or ethics, and they don鈥檛 care about the students. I have an enormous amount of student loans and finding a job has not materialized. I am now back in another university working towards my bachelor degree with the hope that will lend me a future job. I would not recommend Academy of Art to any prospect students who wants to gain Academic and artistic abilities for a prospective career. This university is a mirage for making money and selling you a dream with negative results. Their marketing tactics and advertising are alluring to in trapped students.

I withdrew with a zero balance they charged me $116 threw on another 50 dollars in late fees then sent my file to the credit bureau without alerting me.

This practice is unfair and when I contacted them they lied and told me about phone numbers I didnt have when we spoke.(i.e. they told me they talked to me on the phone I was calling them on in July the phone wasnt turned on until October lol)when I alerted to this they said talk to the collection agency, they have no desire to help former students.... The campus is very pretty. The professors are excellent and helpful, and I don't have a problem with the rules or honor code. That being said their lack of communication with students is appalling. They spam their student's emails with daily announcements. Some of the information is important, but most are things like dances, spiritual thoughts, and events on campus. Glitches and technical issues are RAMPANT. Situation 1: Recently, I had to drop a second block class. While I was trying to drop the... Read More course, a message kept popping up saying that I was going to drop all my courses. I thought something was wrong. Because of the yearly required training at my office, I've been going to work early. BYUI opens after I leave and closes before I get off, so I couldn't call them to get help. On top of this, I didn't know when the drop deadline was because my "important dates" calendar has been down for the past two semesters, but it was early so I assumed I was safe. Well, I finally had time to call them before work. Not only did I find out that the "drop all courses" message was normal, but they have two deadlines, and I missed the first one. Mind you, I tried to drop the class before the deadline. I just didn't want to lose all of my classes. The first deadline was to get a tuition refund so I asked if I could file a petition to get my tuition back because of tight finances and technical issues with my calendar. I was told that my circumstances don't qualify for a petition. Situation 2: I don't qualify to live in student-approved housing because of my marital status. I go to school alone. My partner doesn't live with me at school because they have a job in our hometown, but I still can't live on campus in "single student" housing. We cannot afford to have two apartments on one income. When I go to Rexburg I cannot find an affordable place to live. To this school and the people that run it, a rule is a rule. They will not make exceptions, revisions, or compromises. They don't care about your circumstances, no matter what.

VETERANS LOOKING TO USE YOUR GI BILL BE CAREFUL! They didn鈥檛 tell me I had 30 days from my registration date to give them a Certificate of Eligibility from the VA (the print ready version on EBenefits wasn鈥檛 good enough on top of that the one I provided they 鈥渓ost鈥�) so they tried to tell me I had to pay for everything out of pocket. The financial aid office never answered the phone when I called and I wasn鈥檛 notified of this 鈥�30-day thing until a few days before the deadline. I had just finished... Read More Mod 1 with Dr. George (he鈥檚 such a good instructor) and moved on to Mod 2. I had to stop everything because I hadn鈥檛 received my official COE in the mail yet. I wasted 2 months with them and owe the VA money now because they were actually paid. Take you GI bill elsewhere!

Honestly, it took me a long time to get where I am now. I am a first generation graduate, and it was all done possible by having a near by JC. I'm still in disbelief on how far I made it. Growing up in a low income family, you know how stressful it is to get an education. It always comes down to picking between work or school.
