I entered Herzing University as an RN with my associate degree and graduated with my BSN. I did not know online schools and had not been in a classroom in over 20 years. Herzing University allowed me to learn effectively online and provided me with tutorial help and multiple levels of assistance to continue working toward my goals. Read More well as PowerPoint assignments, and computer presentations. In addition, you must know what work is due and on what days to complete the tasks. The online setup to check your work makes this possible, and if you check to see what's expected, it is not difficult to abide by the scheduling. The guidance from the admission, career, and financial aid counselors is excellent in determining what you need to graduate. At this university, they don't waste time or money. The online professors all have doctorate degrees and are highly knowledgeable. They encourage and are genuinely interested in helping you succeed in their class. They are personable and professional; I have had no bad experiences. I knew nothing about online classes or the mechanics of navigating courses and had not written a college paper in over 20 years. However, I tried to obtain good grades and did my required work. The online resources are available, with loads of references and people or tutorials to assist you. I graduated with an excellent GPA and on time! I also received a scholarship from Herzing toward my tuition and degree completion. I will likely continue my education at Herzing for my Master of Nursing Acute Geriatric Care Practitioners degree and certification. I am looking forward to this!

Indiana State University has an excellent RN to BSN program academically . I had always felt that I was a mediocre writer at best. After completing ISU's nursing program I felt that my writing skills had improved immensely. I also have a better understanding of APA format. The discussion board posting assignments allow students to interact and give constructive feed back. These assignments help alleviate the disconnected feeling you can sometimes get while completing an on-line program. This program... Read More focuses heavily on community health nursing which I found challenging at times because I did not have a community health nursing background. If you are not from Indiana, I would suggest doing some research on where you can complete your clinical hours. Most hospitals require a contract with ISU in order for you to complete your clinical hours in their facility. I found that hospitals did not want to have a contract with ISU for just one student. Unfortunately ISU will not help you find your preceptors or places that will accept a contract with them. I lucked out and knew someone that was a director at a hospital and she pulled some strings for me. If you cannot find a place to complete your hours that is approved by your instructor, this can prevent you from graduating. The classes were excellent, but unfortunately the fact that ISU does not help you find clinical sites to complete your BSN degree would make me recommend this school with a disclaimer attached.

I do not recommend anyone go to this school. I am a student there currently and I wish I had never applied. During the COVID-19 Pandemic they showed little care for students鈥� safety. They did this by forcing the students to come back to campus like nothing was happening. They completely disregarded all the information and data that showed how the virus is at risk of another outbreak. Stevenson University did not make any classes mandatory online classes. Instead, they simply did the most basic preparations.... Read More One basic, and arguably useless, thing they did was making students sign a pledge that says students will practice social distancing (EX: staying 6 ft apart, no guest in dorms, not traveling off campus, etc). No matter how many people sign this pledge there will still be students who disregard all safety precautions, especially when there is not authority figure there to enforce it. Another basic rule they put in place is that students should check themselves for any symptoms of COVID. While checking for symptoms does help combat the virus, the president and vice president of Stevenson University seemed to forget people can have COVID and not show any symptoms. What horrified me the most about Stevenson University鈥檚 decision to go back to in-person learning is that the heads of the school know people are going to get the virus. The school has set aside dorms for students who get sick, or worse. In addition, the school made it very clear that no matter how many students get the virus, online learning will not be mandatory. Stevenson University has morgue set aside for sick students, but online learning for everyone is completely out of the question. The vice president also said that students will not be notified when any person on campus test positive for COVID because of privacy (no one needs to know who the person is in order to be notified them having the virus, but I guess that was overlooked). The only reason a person would be notified is if they had been in close contact with the person who tested positive. The president of the school said the reasoning behind making students have in-person learning is because some students did not like the online learning. What the president did not acknowledge is that some students DID like the online learning, so if the foolish excuse of 鈥渨ell some people didn鈥檛 like that鈥� is going to be used, the logical thing to do would be to have both online and in-person classes. The president also did not acknowledge that it is better to be uncomfortable than infected with a deadly virus. It should also be noted that very little classes have been reduced in terms of how many students are enrolled in the classes. It鈥檚 hard to social distance when there are 25 other people in a small room. I have had countless nights of panic attacks due to my fear of getting COVID, giving it to other people, or my life ending because my school did not care enough about students鈥� well-being.

Berry College was by far the best four years of my life. The professors there challenged us to grow as students, but supported us and helped to pick us up when we stumbled. The academic support staff was always available to meet, and the President of the school knew me personally by name. How cool is it to attend a school where you are known and people genuinely care about your success there? Read More the students received our pins stating we had completed the program requirements. President Briggs stayed behind after the ceremony to congratulate me and then wanted to meet my whole family who was there supporting me! We even had a picture taken together, and he seemed so proud of me. Berry College is special place where no matter who you pass on your way to class, theyll smile at you, wave, and ask how your day is going- and GENUINELY mean it. Its a place where community is fostered and students are challenged to give back to one another. Its a place where no student is left behind, and we pick each other up. For example we have the Save a Student Scholarship in which students raise money for their fellow classmates who have faced a financial crisis and without these funds would no longer be able to attend Berry College. Knowing you have been a part of some one elses success makes you feel so good about yourself- like you are making a difference in the life of someone you do not even know. While the nursing program is relatively new (only 5 years old), we have some of the best professors in the south and certainly one of the best hospital systems to learn from. Two miles from campus is Redmond Regional Hospital System which has the best team of cardiac doctors in the Northwest Georgia area. A little farther down the road is Floyd Medical Hospital which has a state of the art intensive care unit as well as the go-to pediatric unit in Northwest Georgia. With the newest technology at our disposal, students are able to get hands-on experience learning from some of the best nurses and doctors around, and without having to travel incredible distances to complete clinical rotations. Each student in the nursing program also has the opportunity to do a cross-cultural immersion clinical experience in Costa Rica working in local children's hospital (burn specialty unit), and also serving at a local orphanage.
