Capella keep advertising itself on Facebook saying that it's a good school. It is a god school however there are some things you need to know before you attend. First they do not grade on the weekends. So if you finish a class on Thursday or Friday you have to wait until Monday to get your grade. If you have a question that you need to ask the teacher in order to finish your assessments you have to wait 48 hours for them to return the email. Financial aide is a hassle and they will continue to ask you for the same information over and over. Once you get accepted you will no longer hear from your recruiter, as a matter of fact the recruiter (mine was Katie) will send you an email basically telling you to no longer contact her and if you need any more help you must contact you tutor. Sometimes it takes your tutor days to get back to you and often times you have to schedule an appointment. Some of the assessment are very confusing with verbose instructions that don't really have anything to do with what you are learning. The library sometimes does not have articles that you are looking for and you get no results. Some classes let you use google but one particular class wanted to you use only articles within the last 5 years that had to be scholarly and peer-reviewed. The lowered the results that you would get. If you don't at least get a basic on all of the criteria you can not move to the next class. In the event that instructor does return a paper to you, you have 2 more attempts to get a higher grade. Once again it will take them about 48 hours to grade that paper. Do not come here thinking you can just freely move through the program. Some classes have prerequisites so you can not move to the next class until you finish the class that came before it. Sometimes when you call in you will be on hold for about 30 minutes and they will tell you that your academic advisor is not available and for you to press 2 to speak to someone else. The second person is as helpful as they can possible be but most of the time they will refer you to someone else or take a message. You will be asked to complete assignments that can not be found through simple research. Sometimes you will have to watch YouTube to fully understand what is being asked of you. The instructions to complete assignments are vague and unclear. You will have to read it numerous times just to figure out what is being asked of you. Their system will mess up and you will have to call in to get assistance. The automatic chat option that they have can not recognize simple words that you ask it. This school is strategically designed to keep you in classes as long as possible. You will have to buy programs for particular classes and register for some websites just to get some data to complete your work. You will have to pay 10 dollars for a statistics program to complete one of your classes. If you can go to another school.

I live in the middle of no where and I work full-time. Without the flexibility of this school going back to college would still just be a dream. It used to bother me that the school got such bad reviews, but having been at Phoenix for awhile now I can see what happened. It is a very easy university to get in to. I like that. Read More so don't just assume I'm simply saying this for the wrong reasons. If you're willing to do the work now then you deserve the chance. The problem is that this provides a certain type of person with the opportunity to leave bad reviews. I'm talking the type of person who decided to go to this school looking for a handout and came away from the experience unsatisfied and angry. Universities that do not let this type of person in will automatically have less degrading reviews. Does the University of Phoenix have it's faults? Absolutely. Their financial services leave much to be desired. While my enrollment representative may have been the most pleasant and helpful individual I have ever spoken to, I literally never spoke with my financial adviser. We traded a few e-mails with her promising to call and never doing so. I was lucky and did not face any financial issues I was not already expecting. I went to my enrollment representative with my financial questions and he answered them all efficiently. UOP is expensive, heinously so, but I always looked at it as a convenience fee for the flexibility of online courses. It doesn't actually matter to me that it's a for-profit organization. At least they're upfront about taking my money and they're good enough business people to want to keep taking my money so they do their best to accommodate me. One of the best ways to do that is with quality. All universities have their problems. They have people trying to skate by on the work of others. They have teachers who hate their jobs and are therefore not great at them. If you're graded on a curve it can be a little baffling at who they let pass. However, I had some wonderful teachers and some very insightful classmates. There's a lot of reading. I'm not exaggerating, there's nearly an impossible amount you must read. Every week there's reading, essay writing, presentations, and participating to be done. GPA talks and while you can pass classes and still get your degree it's very easy to tell who's doing their best. Learning teams are vexing, but I cannot imagine it's much better elsewhere. I'm a paranoid person who won't take a bad grade and basically made it my business to just complete the whole presentation. I would submit only my assigned portion unless someone else failed to do their part. If this occurred I would make up for it at the very last moment and submit it. I would leave a note for the professor, but I was much more concerned about keep my grades up then I was about punishing someone else for being a slacker. Of course it's not going to be as social, it's online after all. I believe Online has a huge place in out new technologically advanced society. Yes, the tech requirements go up as your schooling goes on. Yes, the classes at the beginning are easier. They do their best to let you get comfortable with everything before throwing you in the deep end. My biggest complaint is only that the password protected PDF files make it impossible for me convert them to Microsoft files I could read on my phone. UOP has an app that allows me to post my participation from virtually anywhere I usually go, but it would be handy if I could also read my material in this manner. Perhaps my phone is not advanced enough, but seeing as I'm paying for materials it is a bit irksome that I cannot have them anywhere I like without having my laptop in front of me. In the end, I love this school. I love learning and not letting my brain grow complacent and slack. If you're dedicated, hardworking, and willing to read a lot, I see no reason for this not to be the school for you.

I began my undergraduate career as an on-campus student. I found living in on-campus in Tucson wasn't really my sort of scene, so after I semester I moved back home. After becoming an online student, I did better academically than I had when I lived on-campus. Resources such as the ThinkTank can be very beneficial. I personally found advisers to be very wishy-washy. When I transitioned from on-campus to online, I met two amazing advisers who I only spoke with briefly. After I finished my transition... Read More my first adviser was fine, but during my third semester, my adviser changed and I there was absolutely no reciprocation in contact whatsoever. I tried multiple ways of contacting her, but ended up graduating with no contact at all. I am grateful, because it allowed me to find out a lot of information for myself. I do think it would be greatly disappointing if this happened for someone who needed more help than I did. As for my program, I found all of the classes to be very engaging. There are teachers who will bother you, but my biggest piece of advice would simply be to figure out what each teacher is looking for. Don't mind the low grades, you can still have a bad day, get a bad grade on a test or quiz, and pass the class with flying colors. I had a teacher who could not spell and tried to be viewed as cool by appealing to things that are popular today, such as memes or fortnite, and unfortunately many of the classes in my program were taught by this person. In this situation, I recommend looking for 7 week classes, or keeping in mind you are only in these classes for a while.

I completed my associates and my Bachelor's Degree at this school and i really enjoyed my experience. I was able to work full time and be a parent while doing so. The school is expensive and I had a few teachers and assignments that i didn't like but I feel like i would have had that experience anywhere. Most of my instructors were knowledgeable and helpful. I was able to get support from my advisor when needed and i never had any issues with financial advisors. I have not had any issues finding... Read More work since graduating. I actually started a job as a Social Worker just two months after graduation. In my opinion if you are a self motivated individual who is able to read materials and get the work done with direct supervision you will find that a degree at this school is very attainable and enjoyable. I am currently looking to get my masters and would love to return to UOP but unfortunately, they do not have the degree option i am looking for. I would recommend this school to anyone who has a busy lifestyle but is self-sufficient.

I would tell anyone to be very wary of transferring into ASU and when dealing with advisors. I have been royally sd for the upcoming year by having some pretty c****y advising that has left me without required credits that I was previously led to believe I already had earned, and I am not having to do those credits and take yet another semester (I was supposed to graduate this coming Spring). So, if you are a high school aged kid and you are thinking about college and are considering ASU: proceed at your own risk. I would HIGHLY advise you to know exactly what credits you will need, when you will complete, them, how long it will take, etc. You CANNOT trust the advising team at ASU to help you here, from my experience. Actually, be careful with ASU period!

I began my college journey at a different university where I attended school primarily on campus and had to change my work schedule to fit around my school schedule. Read More were a number of convenient locations that I could choose from and the class was only one night a week for three hours and the courses are all eight weeks long. This made finishing my degree easy without having to compromise the career that I already have. I will always suggest Ottawa University to those that talk to me about their interest in starting a degree or going back to school.
