The college was a commuter school. As such, I got my required courses using day and evening classes. The evening classes had many adults emphasizing learning versus grades. The professors were challenged if there was insufficient value to the lectures. It was important to plan your class schedule across multiple semesters. The library, health services, social activities and cafeteria were all useful. As I had gone into creating software at my job, my Math degree was not immediately used, just my software experience. When computer software became mainstream, the Math degree opened up many opportunities for my career. The Math degree was considered comparable to a Computer Science degree during job applications.

I think attending WGU was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I attended a brick & mortar school years ago, but life happened and I didn't get my degree. I had 90 credits at my old school and WGU only accepted 17 of them. But that was okay. Why? Because I was able to knock out 2 classes per month and earn my Bachelors degree at WGU in only 1.5 years. The only con I can think of is: I wish they offered more majors! Despite that, I look forward to returning to WGU someday in the future to get a Masters or perhaps a second Bachelors degree (this time it would be in computer science). After all, at only $3300 per term, I feel like the degrees are truly affordable.

I cannot express how happy I found the UIS online degree program. I decided to go back to school for the 4th time in my mid-forties and finally get my bachelors degree. I've tried several different programs with different schools over the last 20 years and was never successful in balancing a full time job with schoolwork. UIS has created the perfect program for working adults. It is challenging enough to keep learners engaged while offering the convenience that working adults require to get it done.... Read More Their teachers and advising staff is always available when needed and they do a fantastic job of presenting the material in a way that is easy to understand for remote learners. If you're looking for an accredited university with reasonable tuition that offers an online program that is both challenging and convenient I would highly recommend UIS.

There is nothing wrong with SNHU, but you will be doing lots of homework in such short frames that it will be difficult to have an opportunity to actually grasp the material. SNHU is very "learning objective" based, so it will not be like in a traditional classroom where the homework and test reflect the overall mood and ability of the class; you will be expected to test or do homework on every subject matter in the book. Once you reach 300 and 400 level coursework, there is little to no instruction and you are left to your own means to understand the material. This may be appropriate for humanities or writing based courses, but for mathematics it is impossible to learn material in this manner. You will be relying on youtube and google to teach you mathematics for this curriculum because the professors certainly don't. Did I mention the courses are only 8 weeks rather than a traditional 16 week course! It is pretty tough if you are going for mathematics with this online program. I would only recommend doing SNHU online if you do not have any other means to go to school during the day. This is by no means equivalent to a traditional education and I have done both.

The math degree at UIS was definitley doable. I think that the program provided clear to understand notes that are easily accessible online. I loved my professors and it felt like they were always available to talk or when I had questions. The program was clearly laid out and defined so that you could graduate in time. I remember that there were a couple of different routes that you could take when completing your undergraduate degree. You have the option to major in Statistics, or a more general... Read More pure math track. I chose to do the statistics track because it is more applicable in the work force. Statistics is a field that can be used in almost any discipline and it is not going away any time soon. Pure math is fine, but I am not so sure that it has the vast array of application that statistics does. The program that I went through allows you to be educated enough to be able to pass the Actuary exams. The math on the Actuary exams have material that you learn in the Mathematical Staitistics courses. In those courses, you learn how to derive the confidence interval formulas and gain a foundation for hypothesis testing. I believe that the program was worth it, and it also doesnt hurt to try to transfer over courses. UIS was traditionally a transfer college and just more recently became a four year University. The amount of classes that you can transfer over is much better than most other colleges that I have experiences. I am glad that I went to UIS and wouldnt have gone to another college because of my experience and the ease of transfer of the classes. I also apprecaited how the graduation requirements were clearly laid out from the beginning of the program.

I was very skeptical of attending an online university. However, logistically it just made sense for me. The mentors at the school were wonderful in helping me when I was stuck, and great at motivating me to push on. One thing that I liked about WGU's teacher prep program was that it gave me a ton of preparation, and the requirements were higher than I expected. Even the teachers hosting me through my practicum and student teaching were shocked at how much I had to do to prepare to be a teacher.... Read More I received a job immediately after graduation and I felt extremely prepared to teach. Also, the tuition costs at WGU can't be beat.
