I chose the flex path for both my BSN and MSN-education. I'm not a great test taker and now that I've been a practicing nurse for 14 years, with parenting and other responsibilities, this path worked well for me. I saw some nurses complete their degrees in one or two billing cycle but I took a little over a year for each degree. Flex path allowed me to write papers on my expertise, hospice. I didn't get a raise, though my employer gave me thousands of dollars towards tuition and I never have to go back to floor Nursing unless I choose. I loved that I could spend as long as I needed on a paper and never felt stressed. The support I got from the professors was wonderful. As an adult learner in an online educational setting, I felt very comfortable without brick and morter classroom format.

I graduated from the Master of Science in Nursing - Nursing Education via the FlexPath program. I did the RN to MSN track since I had a BA in another area and really wanted the MSN degree for my educational goals. The flex path program is designed for students with some academic experience who can keep themselves motivated. I completed the program in 9 months. Each class has 3-6 "assessments," which are clearly laid out for the students. A rubric is provided for each assessment to guide the students.... Read More There are many resources to assist students including the class faculty, graduate assistants assigned to the class, library experts, academic coaches, etc. I always had a response in less than 24 hours when I reached out for assistance. Most of the time, it was much quicker. The faculty has 48 hours to grade each assessment. Many instructors were a day or less, some took the full 48 hours. Students can attempt each assessment up to three times to achieve the appropriate level to continue on. The most challenging aspect of the program is the practicum process. I was fortunate that I work in a large healthcare system, so I could connect with someone fairly easily. There are resources to support students; however, students are 100% responsible for finding a preceptor and a site. The total process to get a site can take 2-3 months, depending on the situation. Otherwise, the courses went very smoothly. I feel confident that this degree will be exactly what I need to start my career in nursing education. I would happily recommend this program to others.

I graduated in November 2021 with my AAS in Nursing. I started Capella in January of 2022 in the BSN program. I finished May of 2022. I decided to get my MSN. I started it in July 2022. I just completed my Capstone on May 7, 2023. I have had a lot going on in my life and some stumbling blocks come about. I took the flex path option for both my BSN and MSN and loved the self paced, competency based program. I wrote almost all my papers on my passion, hospice. I was encouraged to publish several papers by my professors and created a hospital based end of life educational program with my BSN and a college institute high fidelity simulation for my MSN Capstone for the college I teach at. Tuition was a little over $2000 per semester (covid relief from the college for my BSN and a reduced tuition agreement with my employer). With tuition reimbursement from my employer, my total was around $9,000. Customer service was good for me, though the masters practicum and Capstone took a little digging to figure out. I'm totally satisfied with my decision to attend Capella.

I took the Flex program for my MSN and I am appalled by the treatment I have received from the Academic advisers and financial advisers. I had to take a leave of absence after working the front lines during the peak of COVID and then getting COVID. They told me and supported me with taking a "Leave of Absence", then billed me a FULL TUITION charge for a class I did not complete!! I am so disappointed in the lack of empathy and just decency. I have nothing but good to say about this school/university. I got both my BSN and MSN here and am about to sign back up for the DNP program. Beware of negative reviews where people complain of not succeeding because that is a direct reflection on them and their study ethic. If you are not a self-starter, self-motivated learner, you won't do well in ANY school. My course of study included the Guidepath way; this worked for me because I am an older student who needed the assurance that someone would be there to "guide" me through the on-line process. Financial Aid, was well explained, and I had no billing issues to contend with. Most facilitators were seasoned nursing professionals who offered a lot of guidance and experience. All in all, I worked hard for three years, hit all the high points, and graduated with honors. It was a positive experience, and I was sad to see it end. At some point, I may consider the DNP program. I would look at Capella University, first--because of the positive outcomes attained. I was a little skeptical towards the idea of doing a fully online course, as my undergraduate was a hybrid course structure with 1 day a week in the classroom. However, that skepticism was quickly relieved during my first course. The academic advising and instructor teams are great. This is different from other online universities, as it allows for students to take a week from discussion questions if a personal event occurs and time is needed elsewhere. These services made it easier to get through the program and succeed in the work I was submitting. The tuition is also some of the lowest priced out there, and the university is affiliated with many professional businesses and groups that offer discounts towards tuition. Also, the financial aid team is great with contacting you to make sure you understand the amounts due, the funding for student loan availability, and your discounts are correctly applied. As a student, I was able to select the number of funds needed for tuition and decrease the number of payback funds needed to complete my program. Compared to other online universities, Capella University is, on average, $1500 to $3000 less expensive. This made a huge difference in choosing the school. My degree program was very well placed, and I had time to take 2 courses each semester and work full time. I was able to complete my degree with distinction (all As) in a little under 2 years, and it has made a difference in my confidence and ability to increase my earning potential. I would highly recommend Capella University to anyone.

I transferred to Capella from a "brick-and-mortar" university where I also received my BS degree. I have had better experiences with Capella while obtaining my MSN than I did at my former school (no problems obtaining my BS). The course work at Capella is just as challenging. Capella also has some great partnerships that my former school doesn't have, such as those with the ANA (American Nurses Association) and HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society-for those interested in informatics). Nurses are offered a 10% discount with an ANA membership. I received a discount with Capella because of my employer and also received a scholarship (it took a few quarters for it to take effect). This brought the cost of my tuition to about what it would've been at my former school. I love the course work. The syllabi and grading rubrics are pretty straight forward. I've learned a lot that I'm able to apply to my current nursing practice and will continue to be able to use in the future. I started out taking one class a quarter to get my feel of the university and just started taking 2 classes so that I can finish sooner. I'm taking my informatics classes now as well and like learning with the addition of Vila Health. Learners are able to interact and request information from members of the health care team just as they would in a real health care setting. Ebooks are included in tuition costs. This is nice, but I have ordered hard copies of some books. I like to be able to actually flip the pages and highlight myself with some things. I also want to add that the practicum requirement for my program is the same that it is at the school that I transferred from. I will be eligible to apply for and take the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) Nursing Informatics Certification Exam upon program completion, the same as at my former school. I don't feel cheated in any way by coming to Capella. I have had nothing but good experiences with Capella.

So I did the RN to MSN program with Capella university and I must say it was a overall good experience. I had one class in which I would have my papers reviewed before I submitted them and twice received a grade of 50 with no real explanation and that was discouraging. But aside from that one class and professor (I requested not to have them again for any future classes) my experience was good. If I had questions or concerns I could always reach out to the professors. If they felt I was lacking in... Similar to other reviews, I cannot understand why some reviewers have given Capella bad - and some terrible - reviews. I've been with Capella University for a few years, and the only issue I can honestly say I have is with the changes made in how we obtain our text books... That's it. Otherwise, each and every one of my instructors have been phenomenal - granted, some more than others - but all were wonderful in their own right and each had their strengths. My advisor(s) are extremely helpful, go above and beyond, and on the rare occasion I don't hear back from them - it is only due to a time off situation, such as vacation, sick, etc. My advisor gets back to me as soon as she possibly can - and it never takes a long time; and always able to resolve my issue or help me out. I don't know how the instructors are in other programs - just in graduate nursing. Therefore, I cannot say 'every' Capella instructor is fabulous - but I can say that the MSN nursing instructors are - for sure.

I have to have a graduate date to review, but I did not stay with this college. The class I took when I started my master's was easy. The financial aid office messed up my money situation. They did not tell me, I had to find this out after it was too late. I tried multiple times to get it straightened out, and spent countless hours on the phone with different departments. No help. Finally, I quit and enrolled in a normal school with a great support system. I am left owing them money for their mistake... Read More and they will not take any responsibility. They want their money (side note: the course I am paying for is not accepted by any other university so it means nothing) and that is that. They sent me a bill, I made a small payment but they sent me to collections anyway. I asked how they can, legally, send someone to collections who is paying and they said the bill was to be paid in full and that I had to set up a formal payment plan with them, but I didn't....no one ever told me that. The business office has very rude people that do not care about the student. I would NEVER recommend Capella for this reason. When the financial aid office doesn't understand what they are doing, it can set you up for financial ruin. And when the university doesn't care about you, except for your money, that is a tragedy.
