I'm a single mom who needed a fresh start. I was working a dead end job, living paycheck to paycheck and I thought that, "this is how my life is going to be". I then came across Capella University while I was online looking up new jobs. I applied, got in, and have been a grad school student ever since. This program is opening so many new doors for me and my daughter. In am so excited to graduate, get my license and being a career. There are so many opportunities that await me and I am truly blessed.... Read More I owe everything to Capella. This was the best decision I ever made.

Going to Capella was a rewarding experience. It was a challenging school but flexible. I was able to work on my own time. I am anemic and Vitamin D deficient. Both of these ailments together make me extremely lethargic at times. Capella worked with me to obtain an accommodation that worked for me. Refund checks always came on time. During my matriculation I had 2 residencies. One was in Virginia and the other in Florida. Both were fun, interactive, and informative. It was a time for us to engage... Read More with our professors in ways we could not, due to us being online students. However, it was very expensive. We had to pay for our transportation and lodging and the school took care of breakfast, lunch and a snack. Grant it they provided us with hotel information at a discounted rate, but it was still very expensive. Residency is a full week experience so we are paying for each night. Residency can be very stressful and the added financial obligation was no help. On top of that the refund check for the quarter with residency was cut shorter because of residency. This was a difficult time. Capella needs to rethink this aspect. Additionally, for a lack of a better word, graduation was lit! Mine was in New Orleans, a place I had never been before. I was able to explore the city while celebrating graduation. What an unforgettable time. Capella is always very organized in what they do. Check-in was smooth. I knew where I need to be and when I needed to be there. I knew what was going to happen during graduation. The speaker was excellent. And our unconventional president took the tradition out of boring graduations.

During my first college experience I struggled to maintain a B average, which was hard for me considering I had always earned A's or high B's in high school. After receiving my diploma from my first degree I started dragging my feel when it cam time actually try and find a job in my field. So I started working full time at my family's business and within a year to a year and a half I was miserable and was itching to get back to the school system just not as a teacher. Due to my work schedule attending classes in a normal setting was out of the question so I started looking into colleges that would allow me to become a school counselor. Capella was ranked one of the top three programs on every website I searched and it has been the best decision I have ever made!! I have gained so much knowledge and a better understanding of who I am and what I can become because of this program. Before I was never as diligent as I am about getting my homework done and reading the assignments. Now I try to get as far ahead in my classes as I can so I can fully focus on my assignments and make sure I am able to maintain my GPA. Capella has allowed me to be able to continue working my full time job (at one time it was 60+ hours a week) while being able to have two classes go on. Any time I have issues or concerns about the homework assignment or questions the professors email back right away. My program does have two one week residencies where you go and meet people from the same program as you and you get to better understand theories and how different assessments work. Overall, I could have asked for a better program to be in and a better school to be a part of!

I entered Capella in January 2016 after I graduated May 2015 with a bachelors degree that I had no interest in pursuing. I knew that Capella was the right school for me within the first two quarters of classes. Not only were the staff helpful, support and kind but my classmates were as well; which helped to make the experience that much more enjoyable. I had to attend two residencies with the School Counseling program and the knowledge and awareness I gained from those experiences are genuinely priceless.... I dont have a single bad thing to say about Capella and the education that I have received.

Capella University's Master's in School Counseling program was awesome and is accredited. The professors were well versed in school counseling topics. I was amazed by the array of experience each professor had. Even though it was an online program, the professors helped make it more comfortable allowing you to get to know the other students fairly well. Capella University is a great university where working adults can earn a quality education online. The university has many wonderful accreditations so learners can be very proud of their degree upon graduation. I have had so many great professors and learning opportunities through Capella. Although, my program was strictly online, Capella offers many resources such as tutors, a writing center, supplemental instructions in courses all to help learners obtain all the information they need to succeed... Read More in their program. I would strongly encourage Capella University to prospective learners as it has been a great experience for me and many others that I know.

I would like to clarify that I do not write reviews but If I could save someone from falling I would write one. Capella is a joke. They will call you all hours of the day trying to get you to commit. Once you commit you now work of their time. My advisor would take days to email me back once he knew he got me. I am disappointed in this school because the financial team is horrible. The financial team told me I could not go to school because another school paid and extra 30.00 in school loan. Really??... Read More 30.00!? After contacting my loan services & showing proof of documentation. I was still not cleared for 30.00 and was told I cant take my next courses( after I purchased books for 300.00). My professor spelled my name wrong each time we communicated and my name has 4 letters in it. She would also doc points but would spell my name wrong during the email. I hope that anyone that goes here do not believe the hype about the commercials. Do extensive research and choose wisely. Again, I was a real student that have dreams and hopes of finishing school. It will not be at Capella!

The flexibility of the online format is key for me being able to earn my master's degree. I have been very impressed with the rigor of the coursework. Instructors tend to be very supportive and encouraging; they seem genuinely interested in each learner's success. My overall grade given here is a bit skewed because several of the categories are not relevant (i.e. Affordability of Living). It should actually be a 9 out of 10. I am in my second quarter with Capella. I received my Bachelor's degree from a traditional campus in Ohio. So far I am very pleased with the content in my classes, and the instructors in which I have had. The school has some setbacks as every school would have, but overall I have enjoyed my Capella experience. Reading reviews of people who say instructors are not there, my thoughts are as follows. Online learning can make it seem harsher, but in reality instructors do not know when you struggle with something especially if they cannot see you face to face. Overall both I have had have been extremely helpful, yes it appears as if they may not be there sometimes, but a quick e-mail or phone call and they pop up and are right there for any guidance or help. :)
