I earned a Masters of Science in Instructional Design and Technology. The program was one of the most challenging things I've done in my life. Good things are worth working hard for, and it was very hard and demanding. I'm much better off for completing it. So if you're lazy, don't attend Full Sail. Getting a Master's degree at Full Sail is immersive, challenging, and rewarding. The Mastery course was very beneficial to me because it showed what it takes to be successful. I didn't have a formal background in design, so I had a steep learning curve in the beginning. Nevertheless, my instructors helped me to succeed. If you're not motivated, don't attend Full Sail. There are several of advantages and a couple significant disadvantages to attending Full Sail online. The program that I attended was the Education Technology & Media Design Certificate Program. One of the advantages of taking education technology courses from Full Sail is that the instructors are approaching the subject from a technology background instead of a traditional education background, which puts the focus more on technical skill development and practice more than on theory. Though, make... Read More no mistake, the classes do incorporate contemporary educational thought and learning theories. The instructors are knowledgeable, available, experienced, and very passionate about the subjects they teach. I feel as though I learned some key principles and became comfortable using new techniques, such as gaming and creating instructional videos, to deliver content to my students. Most of all, I felt as though I was able to immediately apply what I was learning in my own classroom practice. Notwithstanding, there are a couple disadvantages that would unfortunately prevent me from making the choice to attend Full Sail again in the future. First, the school, though it advertises as being accredited and IS fully accredited, its accreditation is such that it is qualified as a trade school and therefore is not considered a true college by other schools. The result of this is that you are not likely to find a school that will take transfer credits from Full Sail because they are not considered college credits. That is what makes the second disadvantage so much heavier a blow. The cost for a Full Sail degree or certificate is at least 1.5 times the national average for public institutions. Usually, it’s about twice as much. This would be easy to argue away on the basis of it being a private art school, and any successful Full Sail admissions salesman would do just that, if the credits transferred or articulated in some way with other programs around the country. That being said, can you get a quality education at Full Sail, yes you can. I really hope they find a way to get regionally accredited as a full-blown, true credit granting university because they’ve got really good, cutting-edge programs. If you are planning on being an entrepreneur and you’re not paying for the tuition because your rich uncle works for WWE, a strong Full Sail affiliate, then I say sure, go for it! I thoroughly enjoyed my teachers, they send you a nice tech/software package (which your rich uncle is actually going to have to pay for), and at least among the film industry, they are a top producer of successful students. Could you get the same or better education at another online school for a third of the cost and split the savings with your rich uncle? If you’re as good a salesman as the Full Sail admissions guys, you might just pocket all of the savings!
