My time at Johns Hopkins University was an incredible experience. I pursued a graduate degree later in life - after serving in the military and working in my chosen field after leaving the service. I feel the diverse demographics and academic strength of students there provided a range of perspectives in class discussions and is essential for being successful the workplace today. The courses were challenging and pushed me to excel, and the network of people and resources I have at my disposal is... Read More

I toyed for a long time with the idea of earning my MA in Comms. A year into the program, I'm so glad I did. It has already helped me immensely in my career by giving me an edge over my peers in gained skills, confidence, and networking opportunities. I would highly recommend this program to anyone thinking about it. The only thing I'm disappointed with is the financial aid opportunities available. There does not seem to be much help available, either in-person or monetarily through the school.

I toyed with the idea of getting a Masters for more than two years. Would it truly help me in my career? Was it necessary? Why did I want one? I finally realized that, no, I did not NEED one, but that having a Master's in DC is like running every day if you want to go to the Olympics; to be competitive, you must invest in yourself. I am so glad I did because, only 3 semesters in-- about halfway through my program-- I can already tell that the coursework has been applicable to my work and I have gained... Read More

I'm just beginning the program and I'm doing it online therefore questions about transportation, social life and affordability of living do not apply to me. Cons about the school generally is that they do not offer scholarship opportunities to Graduate students, which proves it difficult for many who may want to attend the program.

The resumes of the teachers and fellow students are of very high quality however the program seems fairly new and unsettled. Classes change teachers, teacher do not have defined curriculum and expectations for assignments vary widely based on teacher preferences. The core classes are the exception. They are of very high quality and accessible.

Johns Hopkins Master of Arts in Communications was a great choice for me. The program can be completed on-line or on campus. I live in Texas and work full-time so the online option was perfect for me. The staff and faculty have all been very helpful and have given us all of the tool, instruction, and resources to be successful graduate students.
