If you are a heterosexual male student, especially if you’re over the age of 29, I would recommend NOT considering this program. I fit those criteria and I can honestly say my time as a student in this program were amongst the worst 2 years of my adult life. This program is dominated (not exaggerating) by young, wife females between the ages of 22 and 28. If you don’t meet those criteria or are not LGBTQ+, you will very much feel like an outsider in every sense of the word. This includes interactions... Read More

Disappointed in available externs. Extern placements are often shared by students and are not well monitored by university staff. Multiple environments where placement supervisors were coming in late, leaving early, or not instructing students in any meaningful way.

I had an awful time at Kent. The professors just read the books off PowerPoints. I had an ADA accommodation for missing class due to illness and the teachers would still drop my grade for missing class despite getting good grades on all assignments. Due to my illness I missed class and email the class asking for notes (the teachers didn’t think my health issue was good enough to be provided a note taker like other ADA students) So when I asked the other students for notes someone messaged me anonymously... Kent state has been a huge waste of time and money. I graduated with a 3.7 in computer science and have landed a position in the field, but it was very much due to my own interest and motivation to learn. I practically taught myself while simultaneously doing whatever work kent assigned to me. Kent needs to focus on teaching practical skills instead of doing whatever comes easily to them. I somehow graduated with a BS in Computer Science without a single class ever teaching Git. I never used a single... Read More

I enjoyed attending Kent State University. I began my undergraduate program at another university, but transferred to Kent because it had a better program. They have a great education program with faculty who are experts in their field. These professors took the time to answer any question we had about the education system and provided us with real-life scenarios to prepare us for becoming teachers. For example, there were several field experience opportunities in nearby schools. We had the chance... Read More

I would say that my experience at Kent State University was great! Kent State is a very diverse campus and offers many academic and extracurricular programs. One of my favorite elements about the university is that they do their best to get everyone involved and make everyone feel included. I feel that I have met so many so many unique people and learned so many things through all of the programs I participated in. As far as my particular field of study, I would say that my academic experience was... Read More

I was a student at Kent's main campus all 4 years of my undergraduate career. Looking back on the days I spent there will always bring a smile to my face. The teachers were always extremely helpful, often talking with students long after class, as well as staying committed to office hours. They were friendly and helpful for the most part, with many of them being voices of authority and respected in their fields. My professors respected the opinions of students, understanding that we have a growing... Read More

Kent State University is an amazing opportunity for those students looking to get a lot of opportunity with faculty members, looking for opportunities to get involved and students who want a lot of degree options. Kent's advising staff in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications was outstanding. From the day I stepped on campus, they helped me build a schedule and achieve my course goals. I was able to graduate from the Honors College, earn a Bachelor's in applied communication and receive... Read More

In my four years at Kent State University, I experienced a mediocre education overall. Within my major, connecting with professors was very challenging due to being turned away for wanting to pursue a counselor education versus clinical psychology. A had a rare few courses that challenged me academically and applied to life outside of the classroom. The worst part about attending Kent State was dealing with financial aid repeatedly throughout the semesters due to their many errors and lack of knowledge... Read More

This is an amazing course and professors. The curriculum is up-to-date and is very relevant to the current jobs in market. Course is more focussed on conceptual and practical learning which gave us a good hands-on on implementation of knowledge attained effectively. We did lot of good Projects and eventually all this helped us to finally get into our dream company. Career services office is also another great department with wonderful po

The Biology Program at Kent State is exceptional. The teachers all have the goal of preparing the kids for their future, and challenge them to think critically about the topic. The faculty of the Biology department is really personable, and are helpful when you want to talk to about your future plans.

You are required to communicate with your assigned counselor every semester but when you try to schedule an appointment you can never get the assigned counselor and have to wait to schedule after a date the system allows. Another words, cant schedule appointment until after Tuesday. Im online now and want to schedule now not after Tuesday They bully you into opting to next semester for a class and hurry you instead of taking time to advice on graduating in the 4 years offered in the plan. College is an excellent decision to make if it's what you actually want to do. Many people waste their money on the idea that they need to go to college. Not everyone does. But it is an excellent experience. Plan and save money at the start though, because it is difficult to pay back!

Like any university, your experience will have largely to do with your college and learning style. My program was entirely online, which s as someone who lived in the area and needs that in person experience to thrive. However, I did my undergrad at Kent in English and absolutely loved it. So do your research and make your decision wisely.

The instruction was fairly good from the professors in my department. The program really emphasized research during the time I was there. The faculty were generally supportive of the students and available for questions and concerns. There was a great deal of transition in the department when I was there, and that definitely impacted the experience I had.
