The environment at Liberty University is exceptionally positive and provided me with the skills and background to succeed in life and with my career. The academics are rigorous and practical and taught by professors who genuinely care about their students. To all veterans: Stay away from Liberty online. I attended two different online universities during my time toward my bachelors degree. As a former US Army solider and current veteran, I can honestly say that Liberty is basically a "for profit" university under the disguise of a Christian name. Liberty assignments are much too easy, professors are adjuncts (which means they are really not real professors and spend very little time interacting with students), and the school has a massive recruitment... Read More agenda to try to enroll as many students as possible (think University of Phoenix). (The admissions center itself is the size of a basketball arena on campus). Most, if not all of my graded assignments could be found online by simple "google searches." Also, I found real hardship using my degree after graduation, and finished with 20K of debt, and no real prospects of using the degree. After two years there, it basically feels like a waste of time and effort. Really, any growth on campus at Liberty has been financed by online learning. The only reason, I humbly believe, that Liberty has grown is because Christian students are looking for an alternative to other secular universities, while studying online. The only difference between Liberty and Phoenix is that Liberty claims to be christian. You would be better served going to an online university someplace else, where the accreditation is stronger with a better image globally.

I have been attending Liberty University for just over 2 years. Some classes have been better than others, for example the Human Resource Management class was wonderful, I learned a lot from the Excel class, but what I have learned is in most cases you receive little to no instruction. You are given books to read, assignments to complete and tests to take. Many of the tests are worded poorly and are really confusing. Many times I've brought this to the attention of the instructor and they have adjusted... Read More my grade. The worst experience was the Project Management classes (I've taken all but 1 of them). They give you assignments in Microsoft Project but do not educate you on how to use the tool. Their assignments have little direction and you have to make assumptions on what the instructor is looking for. The instructors are not very helpful when you ask for help. Once I called LU to make a complaint and the person I spoke to said that she dropped the same class for the same challenge I was experiencing! I emailed my classmates to share my concern and see if we could help each other. Many of them expressed they were either planning to drop the class or struggling. Although LU was compassionate in taking my complaint, there was absolutely no action, no follow-up. Unacceptable. If I wasn't 75% complete with my studies I'd find another University. Although I don't mind adding a Christian integration to each discussion board post, they have a new rule where you have to add it to every assignment. It does not make sense at all and it is distracting from the flow of the project or assignment. What I found interesting is in the lower level classes, there were many more PowerPoints and supporting materials in addition to the text, the higher level classes have less supporting materials but are more challenging. In the Project Management classes there are these really cheesy videos that you watch and have no application to the class. Although the speaker is probably a good project manager, these videos should be removed from the curriculum, they are very poor. I have learned through personal reading from the textbooks things that I have been able to take into my career and have been very helpful, but, the stress and anxiety over the assignments and poor teaching I have experienced has been much worse than I ever expected. One good thing about Liberty is the CLEP testing option. I have been able to take a few CLEP tests and avoid the class altogether. I'll be glad to get through it but I am dreading the last several classes I need to get to completion.
