The University of Arizona-College of Medicine is the ideal place to pursue a medical degree. Amid the stress and pressure of achieving, the UA-COM prioritizes student wellness and diversity. The pass/fail curriculum promotes collaboration and respect between students. I immediately found my home in Tucson, surrounded by beautiful scenery and a beautiful culture. As a medical student, finding time for trips or adventures is hard, but Tucson is perfectly located such that a trip to the Grand Canyon,... Read More

Ph.D program. Overall, pleased; some courses could use updates and reviews, especially ones for first years. We have a required course with the PharmD students that isn't particularly suited to our program and is very difficult for our students. Professors are generally helpful, understanding, and willing to meet outside of classes. Workload varies depending on which lab you join.

Pros: The Cancer Biology PhD program is very versatile and you are able to choose your minor in any health-related field. Faculty has very high expertise. If you are unsure about the research area, you can do even four lab rotations before officially joining a lab. Cons: There is not enough diversity, as there are not so many international students in this particular program. If you are latino/hispanic, sometimes you can feel like an outcast. Moreover, if you are planning to stay in Tucson after... Read More

The University of Arizona College of Medicine is easily compared to other medical schools across the nation in education, opportunities, and overall quality. The cost of living I don't feel can be beat, with an average monthly rental price of a single room home at around $500. Where I feel the school falls short for medical students is with scholarships--tuition for residents costs around $30,000 a year, and the largest scholarships are around $1,500 a year.

UACOM is a wonderful place to go to med school. The students are all very close and courteous to one-another and the faculty are always very accessible.

The University of Arizona College of Medicine prepares its students well for their respective fields within medicine. The college works close with students to accommodate most unexpected circumstances like maternity/paternity leave, family death, course remediation, and national exam preparation. The cost of a medical education continues to rise, and while the school does have a friendly and knowledgeable financial aid office, they are unable to offer more than federal loans to a majority of students.... The medical school allows students to have a flexible schedules so that student may pursue opportunities he/she is passionate about. Also, the school has a P/F system with no internal ranking.

The University of Arizona Medical School has many positive attributes. Some of which include the supportive staff and peers who are dedicated to the students success. Another positive is the technology used both inside and outside the classroom to ensure multiple forms of efficient learning can take place since everyone has a different learning style. However, there is a drawback, the expensive tuition. This year's tuition and fees was $27,624 for residents and $45,466 for non-residents. As the cost... Read More

The UA COM curriculum transformed from a departmental-based approach to a more integrative, systems-based approach seven years ago and we are still experiencing the growing pains associated with this shift. There are clear advantages to this though: the instructors are extremely receptive to student feedback and are constantly adapting their teaching styles through subsequent years to teach students in the way that best prepares them for their clinical years and the boards. I've especially appreciated... Read More

University of Arizona-College of Medicine allows many opportunities for students to learn medical knowledge as well as clinical skills. There are many ways in which a student can get involved in his or her interests. The Tucson area itself is a little small and lacks some social events. Also, there should be more scholarship opportunities for students.
