Degree: Elementary Education

This is my second time going through Phoenix, first to earn my bachelor's degree in person and now to earn my master's degree online. I would recommend Phoenix to anyone who wants to go back to school at any age, and by the way, I am 57 and want to be a teacher. I have not had any concerns with the school. I do wish they helped find careers after classes, if not before graduation.

The University that I attended was the perfect fit for me. Consider that I was working a full-time job, and had a wife and daughter to provide for. The University of Phoenix allowed me to maintain my full time job while making it manageable to continue my studies. In addition, the individual and team presentations played a significant role in my professional development. Along with all the issues that come with working with a vast variety of personalities. Earning my Masters of Elementary Education degree was a turning point in my life. I changed careers. When I completed the degree and student teaching, I immediately became a teacher, and am on my 8th consecutive year teaching. I love teaching and now want to start another Masters program to be dual certified in Special Education. I would like to be in a better place financially, as I am almost finished paying my original loan, and need to start a new one. Your scholarship would help me jump-start... Read More

University of Phoenix provides an excellent learning experience for its students. In the educational program, I had opportunities to observe other teachers and implement my own lessons as well. The school also uses learning teams for each class. This prepares its students on how to effectively work in teams. This is a great skill to have because most of the workforce employs teams to accomplish a given task. The advisers and facilitators are useful resources. They are available to coach you through... This degree has been a challenge, but a good challenge! You have to be disciplined and work hard. It is fully accredited and they did require previous transcripts in order to go from an undergraduate to a graduate degree! I feel I was challenged and have earned my degree just as much as going to a brick and mortar school. Please don't let the naysayers persuade you otherwise. I had some tough instructors and worked very hard for my GPA of 3.95! My intern experience has been positive and very helpful... Read More

University of Phoenix online is a great program for working adults who are interested in receiving the graduate degrees. The program is designed where students take one class at a time, which is a great system for busy people. Many friends have asked how I stay on top of my work. With Phoenix, students have posts they must do, group work with students around the country, individual assignments, and weekly deadlines for work to be completed. the group work prepares students for interaction with colleagues... The teacher preparation program at the University of Phoenix is beneficial to educators seeking a masters degree because academic and enrollment counselors review the requirements with students so students are aware of the expectations. Coursework, field experience observations, and student teaching are all aspects that must be completed in the program. The academic counselors and education specialists are very helpful in assisting students along the way by responding to requests, checking student... Read More

I am truly blessed to have attended the University of Phoenix for both my bachelors and master degrees. Recent negative press stories gave a voice to critics who questioned the quality of education received at University of Phoenix, but I am a living testament that you will receive a value of accessible higher education for diverse working adults that will ultimately change the lives of families and future generations. University of Phoenix provided me with my teaching license, so for that, I am happy. My experience was not a good one, however. I felt like the work I did was just busywork and didn't help me prepare to be a teacher. The required group work was a joke. My coursework was all online and you were required to do group work and were graded on it. As we all know, when we do group work, there are many who choose to not participate. So, I felt like I did all the work, which was quite a bit of extra time.... Read More

February 2015, my job of 14 years was eliminated and I had to think about what I would love to do with my life that would allow me to be creative, joyful, and would do for free if I could. The only answer that I could come up with was teaching. Teaching makes me feel the same way singing does. I love children and knowing that I can help them become productive adults, fills my heart with joy. The University of Phoenix has given me relevant information and coursework that I am able to apply to my current... Read More

My journey has been quite an interesting one. I actually started my Masters of Education/Elementary Teaching Program at a University of Phoenix California Campus back in 2009. I attended classes once or twice a week depending on the course. I had wonderful professors who were highly experienced in the education field. Many were either current or former elementary teachers who had a wealth of useful advice to use in our future classrooms. Many of my classmates were like me in the fact that they had... Read More
