I am doing my grad program online. Although I miss the in-class experience, an online program allows me to work full time (40 hours a week). WGU staff are very helpful, there are many people you can talk on the phone with or via webcam, and they utilize technology to the best of their ability. I have always been an independent learner, so taking classes online fits my study-skills. However, there is a lot of information to read online, and sometimes it is hard to focus on the computer for long periods... Read More

Pros: Work at own pace, competency based, affordable Cons: Very limited student interactions, course mentors not course instructors, hard to get explanations in a timely manner.

WGU is an excellent university. I am currently enrolled in the Masters of Education- Mathematics 5-9 program. I am given 6 months to complete 8 credit hours. I complete one class at a time. My advisor is wonderful we have weekly conference calls. If I need help I can email her or call and she gets back to me the same day. The test or either computer based test or a variety of written assignments called Tasks. The computer based test can be taken at a test center or supervised my webcam procter at... Read More

WGU is non profit so not as expensive and I like the way their program works. I had a student mentor that called me weekly the first six months then bi-weekly after. She helped me set goals and provided a lot of encouragement and assistance. Whenever I was having a problem I could count on her to either help me herself or get someone else at the university that was moire knowledgeable about my specific dilemma. You can get your Masters in two years. Semesters are 6 months and you work on a certain... Read More

It is great to be able to work on classes when I have the time, not when I am told I have to be. It is competency based learning, so I can move at my own pace. Flat rate tuition is great! I have been able to work though 6 classes (and still counting) in a single 6 month term and yet still pay the same thing as if I had only completed 4 classes. Online schooling is the way to go for someone wanting a graduate degree but has a full time job and a busy schedule.

The pros are my program is flexible. I can complete the work on my own time and at my pace. Even though my program is online they always have professors and support groups available to help you. My program is extremely rigorous. Some would consider that a con, but I think that is one of the things that make it special.
