Most disappointing experience in education I have ever experienced. More than 90 days after being accepted and completing orientation I am still waiting to begin classes and have my financial aid released. Save yourself the headache and go to a real university. The degree on the wall will be worth much more. UPDATE: After 3 months of promises and jumping through hoops WGU dismissed me from my program. Ironically, with 5 Master's degrees under my belt, all from Tier-Level universities, I find WGU... Read More

I liked the classes but am having a hard time getting my special ed. Credential. Honestly the Masters degree is worthless if I cant get a credential in my home state. The credential process they advertise is not what they tell you after you graduate.

Western Governors University is an online program designed to accomodate professionals as they work. This program allowed me to follow my dream of serving special needs students while still providing for my family. This University was challenging and rigorous. The support model that is in place helps students navigate the online courses with ease and the mentors are encouraging. I enjoyed my time at Western Governors University.

WGU is a well-structured, supportive university. There is someone to assist you with your academic needs every step of the way. It is nice to know that you are supported at all times. Having online courses is convenient for the busy adult. As busy adults, we need to know that we are supported to help us remain on track.

WGU is an amazing price and a great program. I was challenged and able to work at my pace to complete my degree. The course mentors and student mentors work very hard to help you achieve your goals. The program was rigorous but worth the effort, I was able to pass all state assessments and course work requirements for my teaching endorsements.

Not what it use to be....I earned my BA and was satisfied back then but not anymore. I have wasted time and money trying to get a Master's Degree. When you have a questions they just bounce you around from person to person. In addition the course work does not benefit you with actual teaching. Don't waste your time and money, go somewhere else. I am seeing about transferring credits now!

I had an existing bachelors, so I initially enrolled into the MA in Teaching. I really wanted to focus on special education, but since I wasn't already licensed, I couldn't enroll in the MA special education program. I decided to get my bachelor's in special education at WGU. I am highly qualified to teach in my county. There is some inclusion, but most of the special education content was limited. It was more about general education and then self-study to complete the praxis content area in the... Read More

My program offered flexibility which allowed me to continue to work full time and to support myself. I enjoyed the structure of the program as I was able to work at my own pace and excel or take more time as needed. In addition, I had great support from my mentor who helped set realistic goals in order for me to complete my program. Since WGU is an on line university, I did not have the direct support of other students in my program. I had to rely on the web communities which, at times, took several... Read More

Pros are being able to work on the degree at your own pace and in your own home. Since they allow you to move ahead when you finish classes I was able to complete a 2-year degree in 1 year. Cons are you are that you are not in active classes.; you must be self motivated.

Loved doing the work online. When I needed to complete my student teaching they were wonderful about letting me find a placement that worked for me. Excellent support in all that I did. My mentor was great!

WGN is a very good university. I have been with them for about a year and find them exciting with the lastest ideas and technology for teaching online.
