TAMUK started off as a traditional university but has since evolved to also include an online school. According to the , over half of TAMUK's undergraduate students (55%) engage in at least some form of online learning. Additional data shows that 40% of the school's graduate students complete their degrees exclusively online without in-person classes.

The best way to tell if a school is respected is to look at its accreditation status. TAMUK is best known as the oldest continuously operating public institution of higher learning in South Texas. It's been in operation since 1925, when it started as a college for teachers. Applying to college at TAMUK is a simple process. However, it requires submitting several important documents that detail an applicant's academic history. First-year students must prove they earned a 2.7 GPA during high school, while transfer students must show a 2.0 GPA through their undergraduate coursework. There are only two steps needed to apply:
