Earning a CPA Credential: Indiana Requirements

Earning your credential as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a great step to a higher salary and better career prospects. However, it requires a lot more time and energy to achieve this distinction. For licensure in Indiana, CPA candidates must:

  • Complete 150 credit hours at an accredited institution. Since most bachelor's degrees cover only 120 credits, pursuing a master’s degree in accounting can help bridge the gap to meet this requirement.

  • Accumulate two years of relevant accounting experience. You won't need to work under direct supervision of a licensed CPA. However, a licensed CPA must verify your experience.

  • Pass the Indiana CPA exam with a score of at least 75. The 16-hour, computer-based test includes four sections, featuring multiple-choice questions and task-based simulations designed to mirror real-world accounting scenarios. If you don't pass one of the sections, you have 18 months to retake that specific section.

Attended: Strayer University

I liked the overall structure of the coursework because I was given the syllabus for the entire program which was 11 week blocks. Each semester lasted only 11 weeks, which gave lots of homework but the homework that was given was useful and applicable to real world application. I learned things that I could take with me to the job and use right away. I feel that more schools should do this because employers are looking for people who have the academic tools but also someone who can put those tools... Read More

No one really appreciates the degrees one earns here in my experience. They like to hear USF or UF.

Furthermore when I started the Master's program it was a mess. Could never get hold of the instructor and the counselors were about useless.

Finally after not being able to contact the instructor about recieving a password to log on to an online site St. Leo helped me drop the class but almost didn't want to refund my money. As much money as one pays to go here they should help the students find jobs... Read More

JWU - Denver provided a thorough and complete accounting program. Professors were excellent, but administration did not provide the same services to accounting students as to other groups due to how few of us there were (i.e. job search assistance, job fair representation - we were told "every business needs accountants" - sorry, I didn't go to college to be a book keeper for $10/hour at Red Robin).
