In-Depth Analysis of Our List: Maryland's Best Online Business Degrees

When selecting the best online business degrees in Maryland, you’re not just choosing a program — you’re investing in your future. To make the decision easier, we’ve analyzed each school’s standout features, financial accessibility, and long-term earning potential. Here’s a breakdown of the top options for aspiring business leaders in the state:

Balancing Cost and Earnings

When it comes to balancing affordability with earning potential, UMGC easily shines above the rest. It has the absolute lowest tuition on our list ($12,336) alongside the best salary among business graduates — $67,858. UB offers competitive value too, with tuition at $22,956 and earnings of $63,811.

Broad Accessibility vs. Personalized Learning

Again, UMGC stands out as a powerhouse in online education, serving 41,446 distance learners. This means the latest technology, comprehensive support services, and a curriculum designed to meet the needs of various demographics. It also signals trustworthiness, suggesting that UMGC can provide a consistent, high-quality experience.

NDMU takes the opposite approach, focusing on a highly personalized learning experience. With just 140 online students and a remarkable 8:1 student-to-faculty ratio — the best on our list — NDMU ensures close mentorship and meaningful interactions with instructors. This contrast illustrates two distinct approaches to online education: UMGC’s broad accessibility and adaptability versus NDMU’s intimate, tailored environment that prioritizes close connections and individualized attention. Each model offers unique benefits, depending on what matters most to you.

Certified Success: The Best in Business Education

±«µþ’s AACSB accreditation sets it apart as the most prestigious choice for business students, placing it in the top 6% of business schools worldwide — a testament to its academic rigor and global recognition. AACSB accreditation is renowned for its stringent evaluation criteria, focusing on research excellence, faculty qualifications, and innovative curriculum design.

By contrast, UMGC and SU hold IACBE accreditation, reflecting strong academic standards while offering a more accessible pathway for diverse learners. IACBE evaluates programs based on their effectiveness in achieving educational goals, such as career readiness and leadership development, rather than focusing heavily on research output. In summary, it's a career-focused alternative to the AACSB model.

Measuring Success

Student success metrics like graduation and retention rates highlight how well schools support their learners. SU comes in first place with a 65% graduation rate and 77% retention, reflecting strong academic outcomes. UB shows solid retention at 60%, though its 33% graduation rate may be influenced by its transfer-focused structure.

Meanwhile, UMGC and NDMU display average retention rates of 43% and 62%, respectively. UMGC’s 16% graduation rate suggests its accessibility may attract students facing unique challenges, making support structures especially critical.

Which Business School is Right for You?

Budget-conscious? Choose UMGC for low tuition and high earning potential.

Seeking prestige? ±«µþ’s AACSB accreditation makes it a top-tier pick.

Want a personal touch? SU’s high retention and graduation rates ensure close-knit academic support.

Looking for innovation? NDMU’s focus on entrepreneurship and real-world experience prepares you for dynamic business challenges.

By aligning these schools’ strengths with your priorities, you can make an informed choice that sets you on the path to success.

Are you undecided that business is the best major for you? Start with choosing the right college from our overall list of best online colleges in Maryland.

A lot of sacrifices, but I made it. If i can do it, anyonecan do it. I am thinking heavily whether to complete my Master's. Thank you for a great experience at my age.

I have a year and a half left before graduating. I think, my date has changed a couple of times already. The staff at Post University is great when it comes to the academic advisors and instructors. Financial Aid is a different story. They are rude and do not help you. When your financial aid runs out, they don't tell you anything until it's too late. They then expect you to pay out of pocket but loads of money or not register you for classes. I loved this school up until this point. Classes are... Read More

Waste of time, Graduated 2021

Attended: Strayer University

I am not happy with this school. Since I started in January 2019, it's been an up-hill battle with their verification process. The school wants me to amend my taxes for 2016 to better suit their needs and it's not the truth. I have spoken to my tax person, and he has said there is no need to amend your taxes because I was within my legal rights to file head of household. Furthermore, I have contacted my Success Couch, for the last three days, and he still has not returned my calls.

I dont know how the other reviews thought so poorly about the school. I found the staff very helpful and friendly. The professors were great for the most part. Being in the military the school was accommodating to my schedule. Ive learned a lot and am satisfied with the education Ive received. I definitely recommend if youre good at online education and have self discipline.

Really Enjoyed My Experience!, Graduated 2019

I just graduated from WGU last week. I finally finished my BS in Business Management. I am reading some of the reviews and I have to ask, if someone has had an experience as bad as some of the ones that I've read, what are you looking for? If it's help from instructors, WGU has more than enough instructors in each course. If you had poor communication with anyone at the university, something is seriously wrong. As soon as I enrolled in any class, I would immediately get welcome emails from course... Read More

I've attended traditional brick and mortar schools. One of them being a state university. However, being a full-time employee and a full-time student is nearly impossible to make happen these days. At least if you value your health, time and money. So, I did a lot of research prior to enrolling in an online university and decided to go with Ashford. Like in most colleges, you will experience both good and bad instructors. Some were very helpful and some were anything but. Ashford has taken measures... Read More

Also they gave me some credits for National licenses I earned. I took the balance of my credits online and had a 3.78 GPA. It was NOT EASY. Don't go to UOP if you think it will be simple.
