I started the Vet Tech program with Penn Foster a couple of years ago and didn't make it very far. Mostly because I was working and not motivated. When I decided it was time for me to go back to school, I came back to Penn Foster. I'm now enrolled in the bachelors business management degree. Why did I choose to come back to Penn Foster? It meets my personal needs. Penn Foster is nationally accredited, unlike your local community college or your state university which are most likely regionally accredited.... Read More It usually goes like this; regionally accredited school courses will transfer to nationally accredited schools but not all nationally accredited school courses will transfer to regionally accredited schools. Why? Because the regional accreditation requires a strict and rigorous course catalog, among other things. Schools like Penn Foster are usually career schools. The advantage is that they are able to change their courses as the real world changes and this keeps their students current. It would take a considerable amount of time and red tape to change the courses. If they had to go through all of the processes by the time they got approval for the change, there would be new information to add. So with that said, Penn Foster does have some courses that have been evaluated and are recommended for transfer by the ACE College Credit Recommendation Service. So if you plan on trying to transfer to a regionally accredited institution, keep in mind that only certain classes and credits will transfer. Also, If you plan to continue your education like I do, plan carefully. I want to get my masters and maybe even my doctorate someday. Not all Institutions will take my Penn Foster degree. Two more things that I like about this program...The tuition and the delivery system. Oh, and the self pace... sorry, three. Tuition is affordable and all study materials are included. They also have an online tutoring center. They offer affordable payment plans. I pay 60 a month right now, I think the lowest you can go is 49. The delivery system, all courses you can complete online, except. Except except except you may have proctored exams. But honestly that's not too big a deal. Go to your local library, the librarians are usually more than happy to help out. I also hear that in the vet tech program you can now be proctored through your webcam. Online, Affordable, SELF PACED. That's really the thing that gets me. Sometimes I get lazy, I don't want to be bothered with reading 80 pages by friday so I can attend class. I work, like the rest of the real world. I need time to tune out, pretend I don't exist. Then there are weeks where all I want to do is sit down and knock out three lessons. Those are things I can do with self paced courses. So, if you are considering Penn Foster make sure it meets your needs. As for faculty and staff, I've had nothing but good experiences with them so far. My questions are answered in a timely manner and they are always kind. But remember, they people not machines. people make mistakes, people get frustrated, people have bad days. No matter if its an online school, on campus, nationally or regionally accredited. They are trying to take care of a lot of people and if you can express your problems in a polite way they are going to try and help you. In conclusion you need to find out if Penn Foster meets your educational needs... It is your education, your life. Make an informed choice.

I have learned a lot of information and made some great connections with instructors that have provided me with the tools that I needed to continue my career. Obtaining my degree has allowed me to experience my career at another, satisfying level. When I first started with the University of Phoenix, I started attending at a campus, but due to life circumstances I had to withdraw. Read More environment and it truly fit my schedule and allowed me to be a mom and career woman at the same time. I must admit there were some challenges, but I was able to push past them and graduate with my Bachelors Degree. Now am in the process of obtaining my Masters using the online platform.

The University of Texas at Austin, specifically the McCombs School of Business are both amazing. Austin is a great city to spend 4 years in and I loved that the campus was right in the heart of so much fun. The University of Texas has so many opportunities to find your place that it can be overwhelming at first, but once you find your solid groups it makes college better. I recommend taking the time to find clubs and groups that fit for you- do not force it but instead keep looking. While I made... Read More friends initially it did take me longer to get that solid friend group since I was one of the few students not from Texas. It can be hard to break into groups that are all high school friends or when you miss out on activities because every goes back to the same hometown on the weekend. It can take time, but worth it when you find your people. The program is very rigorous, but there can be some amazing professors. It was also quite a shock attending classes with hundreds of students- my entire high school was the size of some of these classes! That is when you need to be especially sure you make friends in class and get to know the professor and TAs at office hours so you do not get lost. Id recommend taking a couple core classes at community college during winter/summer break. Certain classes can be very time consuming so it can help with workload balance during the semesters. This is especially helpful if you are short on time trying to receive a major and a minor or had a delay with declaring. A McCombs degree goes a long way with recruiters since it is so highly valued and respected. The emphasis on recruiting resources and career services are great. The business school understands the goal is to get a great job after graduation and they bring lots of companies to campus giving plenty of opportunities to connect for internships and jobs. The University of Texas and McCombs have such fantastic reputations that people are always impressed. It is also the best to have such a huge network- Longhorns always help Longhorns and since there are so many of us you are likely able to find one another.

I enrolled in this online state college after completing my associates degree at a local community college where I did about 2/3 online and 1/3 on campus. I needed to be able to take my courses exclusively online because of my children's activities. The courses were all about the same. Submit 5-10 posts to an online discussion board each week, respond to at least 5-10 of your classmates posts each week, take a small quiz each week, work on 2-4 group projects, write a major paper throughout the entire... Read More course, move on. The school is more interested in how many times you can post nonsense to an online chat room than how much information is being retained and applied. Professors rarely give actual constructive criticism and most professors have a hard time grading anything before the 8 week semester is complete. I had two classes where the professors suddenly disappeared about 1/2 way through the course and the college had to locate replacements and add time onto the end of classes. When I requested constructive criticism, I was told to refer to my syllabus and rubrics, which were very often extremely out of date. Course descriptions almost never matched up with what was taught in class. Textbooks did not seem to be chosen well and were often newer versions than that which the online coursework was built off of which caused a lot of issues and confusion. The financial aid office is a joke in so many ways, it is ridiculous. I am a veteran and in the state in which I reside, am entitled to 100% free tuition. COSC happens to also be in my home state so this should apply but they have some special rule about how they only do 50% tuition waiver. I took out student loans through COSC (the only kind they accept) and often had to wait until 2-3 days before the end of a semester to get my overage deposits. I was not able to enroll in any courses without electronic advisor approval - which often took weeks and caused me to have to attend more semesters because courses filled up before I could get in. Many required courses for my degree were only offered once per year and if I missed one, I had to wait a full year to try to get back into it. Overall, I feel like they are just issuing meaningless pieces of paper (degrees), overcharging, and then not answering any requests for more information or clarification.

My time at Florida International University was pretty amazing because of the open atmosphere around campus. I joined National Honor Society in which help me work on team building and keeping my focus to one goal at a time. I also joined FCSA which means Florida Caribbean Student Association that expose to me different peoples backgrounds of the Caribbean, and get a chance to explorer my Bahamian side of my roots that was pretty exciting to experience. I have met a lot of interesting people that... Read More Im probably will be friends for a very long time. I learn more about myself then I ever did in my whole entire life being at FIU. One thing I can really take away from the school is that they are one of the most helpful universities I have ever come across. The staff, professors, and peers that you come across will make you want to continue on striving for the best. I studied international business and management for my undergrad and I learned so much within my program as well as other people who I meant around campus programs as well. Im looking forward to be going into my Masters program with FIU and I appreciate all the help that was provided to keep me going to my goals. My advice for any up and coming Florida International University students it is don't be afraid to ask a question because that question probably will get you to where you need to be. Thank you!

Middle Georgia State University has a big program for Business and nursing degrees. The tuition is very cheap , and you get lots of opportunities in the classroom and outside of the classroom. There are lots of great teachers that will help you in anyway that they can. One of the biggest things that i really enjoy about this school is that there are never any classes on Friday, so you will anyways have a three day weekend. This three day weekend gives you time to do any homework that you may have.... Read More Also the teachers understand that their class isn't the only one that you have, so your generally given a week to complete homework.
