I felt compelled to defend SNHU after reading some of these bad reviews. I honestly cannot base my review off anything with the finance department because I have been paying out of pocket since I began attending. Now, I'm in my early 30s and work in IT, but finishing my BA in Psychology. The adminissions department made the process so easy for me. They actually reached out on my behalf to a community college I attended that I couldn't even get ahold of to transfer any credits. Because of my military... If you're not the best with technology, I could see why it could be frustrating pursuing a degree online. Their interface has improved a lot in the last year, also. All my instructors so far have been accessible, sometimes things get lost in translation with teachers via e-mail, but that seems typical of any work/school situation. The college has a pretty reasonable tuition fee. I am not sure you're going to get much better rates for the quality of education. I have about a year left with the Psychology program. You get what you put in, honestly. If you read all the required material and actually enjoy Psychology, you will succeed. If not, you might struggle. If I did not already work full time (which is how I am able to pay out-of-pocket), I would be finished with my BA by now. Maybe it is because they're located in New Hampshire and I lived near this college for almost 5 years, but for an online program they are flexible and affordable.

I doubled up on courses throughout the whole program, which has brought me to the end of the road in roughly a year and five months. Throughout this time, I've had a myriad of experiences with instructors. Most were good, very few were questionable, and the rest were masters of their craft. None of them were arrogant, mean, or disrespectful. The student advisers were switched out frequently, but transitions were nearly seamless and administrative processes were fast/accurate. The coursework was practical for the most part. However, there were a few courses that could have been written in finger-paint over someone's lunch break and that is of no fault to the instructor. Mostly everything has a clearly written baseline in terms of acceptability. What is subjective is the interpretation of what is considered "substantive". Some instructors want references for everything. Others harp on word count. Some are just happy if a student can marginally grasp a concept. It is on the student to be able to flex to the instructor's style, not the other way around. There is one major downside to this program... the other students. While this is not the rule and there are many exceptions, the lack of effort on behalf of some students is appalling. When the requirement is to write six posts per question, per week, it means just that. When a student shows up at the eleventh hour on a group assignment while one or two people have done all the work, they've effectively stolen a grade. When a student cannot compose a sentence using proper structure and grammar, they have no business pursuing higher education. These actions devalue the concept of higher education. There are those that are there for a piece of paper (which they will inevitably receive), and there are those that are using GCU as a platform for a career. There really is no median or mean in this group dynamic. Ultimately, it all boils down to selection criteria by the institution and the cut-line is very low with GCU. With regard to the observations mentioned above, I will most likely graduate with a 3.98 GPA if I can continue my track record. The reason I mention this: I am not very intelligent. This means that anyone attempting this program that is willing to put in the work will not only pass, but separate themselves from the rest of the pack if the smallest iota of effort is put in. I will finalize with a few words of conventional wisdom... and you should: ask questions to your instructors. If they do not answer, you have tools available to route a complaint. The coursework is designed to pass, not fail. I say this with trepidation because as a Psychology student, you'll be subjected to the goodness of two statistics-based courses. Do not post if you intend to drop a class because you will be charged every time. Check out your instructors. You'll be shocked at what you can find out about them on Google. Hint: the bad ones have track records associated with their teaching methods. Use spellcheck. Have someone sanity check your papers because you will write hundreds of them. I have been a full time student, working adult and mom for three years at this institution. I had 15 years of healthcare leadership experience, knew I wanted to do more but needed a degree. Kaplan, later Purdue Global, has met my needs and then some. I will say that my overall experience has been incredibly positive. The negative reviews here honestly shock me. I did my FAFSA online and set up a monthly payment plan for the remainder. The finance office returned any call, answered every question and was very accommodating with my out of pocket expenses. My Adviser was AMAZING. I cannot say enough about her. She checked on me every week, provided constant encouragement and ensured I understood the classes I was taking, the sequencing and what I would be taking each semester to meet my timeline. The course work was challenging enough that I learned, what I thought, was a great deal. The pace of the 10 week classes felt just right. I took the portfolio course for work experience credits and it was worth the effort. The professors were knowledgeable and helpful. I learned concepts that I began applying immediately. I still refer back to some of the teachings, principals and concepts. Cons - I really missed not having actual textbooks. They are all online. Some professors navigate the seminar technology better than others. It seems to be significantly better since it became Purdue. I plan on working towards my MBA with Purdue. This was a very good experience and stands out well on my resume.

I was very excited to begin my bachelors in psychology and my advisor was very helpful setting up my classes and being interactive with me; emailing and calling me to check in. This was my first time attending an online school and the online classroom was relatively simple. It was also convenient to attend fully online. An incredibly irritating situation was when I was told during my second to last class of my degree that I was going to have to pay for my last class out of pocket which was very frustrating seeing as I was not working (I am a military spouse and we had just moved overseas) and I had a limited amount of time to find the funding for it. The individuals I communicated with in the financial department were friendly and they directed me to their scholarships, most of which are for students fulltime on campus and therefor useless to me. TIP: If you are going to file a dispute concerning money, do not expect it to come out in your favor. Even if they are in the wrong, expect a fight and a lot of back and forth. SNHU is nonprofit but they are greedy and will look to get and keep money from students any way they can. Be sure to look into what discounts they have and make sure they are applied because they will not tell you during the enrollment that they have any. They also charge $150 to petition to graduate which is ridiculous. The professors were hit and miss with how engaged and helpful they were but I overall felt that I was reading the materials and teaching myself. The professors were responsive and understanding for the most part if I was having trouble understanding an assignment or if personal issues came up. The final projects for the classes were very repetitive with only a few being truly fun and interesting. The absolute worse professor I had was during my final capstone class. The assignments were unclear and her feedback provided on the rubric was very condescending which made me feel even more disconnected from the course and made me apprehensive to communicate with her. I overall feel that all of the previous courses I took, at least concerning the assignments and final projects, did not prepare me for the final project in that course. Now that I am done it seems they have washed their hands of me. They have not assisted with career placement or resources and they have not questioned whether I want to go further with my education and resources regarding that. They got my money and that all they were concerned with. I cannot say to definitely attend or not attend this school but I can say proceed with caution. Get as much info as you can to get a feel for the school before you decide and if you start and find it is not for you, get out asap because you will not be able to withdraw and get your refund after the first week (which is really not an adequate amount of time).

The online program with Ashford university is an exceptional program. The school offers a wide range of staff to support you during your academic pursuits as well as tutor services and writing services to help with papers. The portal is simple to use and the classroom setting is just as easy. Some of the teachers are not great with feedback or rapid responding, however the vast majority of my teachers have been exceptional. I receive my bachelors degree there and I am currently enrolled in my masters degree program. I have also encourage my sister to enroll and she is working on her bachelors degree as well.

South University is the most wonderful college to attend. Since 2011 I was accepted and have been pursuing my BA in Psychology. The college has been wonderful allowing me help to achieve success to advance and secure my future. The academic staff is wonderful providing a path to help guide you from one class to an other and allowing you extra help along the way.
