Excellent program for three reasons: it allowed me to tailor my 'class time/study-time' to what worked best for my work and travel schedule; it is truly a 'you get out of it what you put into it' kind of program'; and the overall level of tasks and requirements for the courses was more than appropriate for what the course was really about. Yes, it is is distance learning, but unlike a campus setting, it is about doing the work, not dealing with the ego issues of a face to face professor and the stress... Read More that can create. The Forbes School of Business is a good program--you learn new things but you you learn, most importantly, how to THINK about new things--and that is what an executive needs to be able to do in order to effectively lead teams and manage new situations. Finally, at the end of it all, one has to take the (relatively new) National Comprehensive Examination for MBA Candidates. I admit a great deal of trepidation because this is the same exam that all of the folks at the "real" business schools take: how would I do? How well was I really prepared? I scored in the 99th percentile--not a brag, but it shows that I really had learned what I needed to do to be competitive with other MBA program graduates. Do I wish I had gone to a 'big league' B-school? Sure--but time and circumstances did not allow me to do that given my job and career status; given that, the flexibility made the Forbes School a great alternative for me.

I have attended both 4-year on campus schools and online. I've been attending Ashford online since 2008. I thrive in the online environment because Ashford has such an excellent learning platform. The faculty are very supportive and are quick to respond to any questions or concern. I have recommended Ashford to many of my friends and family! The only con I have found is that there is no career placement or assistance with finding employment. They do have a career and professional development center... Read More that allows you to post your resume and search for jobs, however, they do not offer career placement. This is the only addition I would like for Ashford to make for their students. Other than this, I am 100% satisfied with my education! Thank you Ashford for providing me a platform that enabled me to make my dreams come true :)

As many have pointed out, this program is exactly what you put into it. If you need someone to hold your hand and walk you through every detail in your collegiate experience, then Ashford may not be the place for you. They can help you, but only to a point. You need to be able to help yourself, which is the way life works as well. My issues with Ashford stem from the variable way in which instructors are allowed to apply the rules of APA formatting. Some instructors are not going to award an A no... Read More matter how well your paper is written. Another issue is the lack of requirement to encourage discussion in the classroom. I post and must respond to 2 classmates, but there is no requirement for the OP to respond to responses. This does not encourage discussion. Ashford is a relentless program. You are teaching yourself and proving to a qualified instructor that you understand the content of the course. It is no different than a traditional college in that sense. As Ashford grows, it will improve. I completed my MPA in February and actively started looking for jobs in City Management in April. I have had two interviews so far and expect to have more in the near future as the positions across the country become available. My MPA from Ashford wouldn't normally qualify me for these positions, but my history in municipal government, which I used during my coursework at Ashford, certainly does help. You get out of it what you put into it. This is not an education in which you will be spoon fed.

This program is great for people who cannot afford to work part time. It is highly flexible and you learn the same material as everyone else in other MBA programs. The downside is you miss the personal feel of college, however the benefits of the online program outweigh this downside. You are constantly being forced to challenge yourself, to learn time management, to set high standards for yourself to make the best grades possible, and to be the very best you can be and learn as much as you can....
