The group projects in my MBA program (even though they were sometimes frustrating) turned out to be perfect practice for the real world of managing teams.”

Dixon added that online MBAs, in particular, foster strategic insight and cross-functional collaboration through global connectivity: “You get access to a global network of peers, which can be extremely valuable in today's interconnected world.”

"Managing virtual teams & collaborating remotely are must-have abilities now," Charbonier explained. “The old stigma about online programs is basically dead,” said Charbonier, who both earned her MBA online and hires MBA grads. She’s far from alone in noticing the shift. COVID may have accelerated this change, but the seeds were already there, and employers now routinely see online MBAs as credible, competitive, and in some cases, even preferable.



About 40% of the MBA resumes I see now are from online programs. That percentage keeps growing.


In fact, online MBA graduates often bring deeper real-world experience to the table. “They’re working and getting their MBA on the side, vs. pausing their career to do their MBA in person, full time,” said Hughett, who works with hiring managers across industries. That ongoing professional engagement is a strong selling point.

Charbonier offered a concrete example: “Last year, I hired someone with an online MBA from Indiana University for a senior marketing role. She absolutely crushed the interview because she could talk about how she'd applied her MBA learnings to real business challenges at her previous company.”
