I was attending GCU for a Bachelors in Education and decided to change my major to Social Work over the Christmas break. I was told by my advisor that it would be perfectly fine to change in the new year and start with my new classes. Well, I am currently in my first new class for Social Work and realized that my next class isn't until October of this year! I am livid right now, and do not want to take a 7 month break between my current class and my next class. I am hoping this is a mistake, but... Read More all my financial aid information is showing the same thing. I do not want to stay at this school, if they can not get me into a class until October. I was pleased with my experience at GCU up to this point.

For those speaking on Chapman, Brandman is soon to become apart of UMass. I would personally recommend my program to people but can't speak on any other degrees or programs. I've had great, helpful and knowledgeable Professors (many from Chapman) & OneStop/Financial aid are helpful. I will say that sometimes the bare minimum is assigned leaving the student to research a lot on their own, but that's not a problem for me as that's why I chose an online program. If you feel you're not being challenged, challenge yourself. Nothing's stopping you. Any online program, YOU have to do the work. If you need a Professor to hold your hand, choose a different school/program.

I recently enrolled in Walden, when doing research I was told by someone from the school that I would be considered a full time student if I took two six-week classes per term. Later (after I was enrolled) I found out that this is the case for the school but not for financial aid. With the grant I am getting I need to be full time (12 credits) which I was lead to believe I would be, but I am not. When I was on the phone with someone from financial aid at walden she was nothing but rode, wasn't helpful at all, and I kept having to explain what I was talking about because she wasn't really paying attention to me. Also for the first class I was required to take a useless class. it basically was "this is what an online class is" I already have an associates degree (which I took a lot of online classes to receive it) so it has been a waste of time and money (I don't even think I need it for my degree since I have all of my electives done). If I could go back I would pick a different school because this school is misleading and not what I was expecting. I was told that I would have all these great resources and help, but I get left on hold forever. I'm sure there are good online schools out there this one is just no one of them.

The Social Work program at Florida Atlantic University was beyond what I expected it to be. I was and continue to be extremely impressed by the faculty in the School of Social Work at FAU. One thing I really appreciated about the program was the level of competence most of the School of Social Work professors had. Many of them were adjunct, so they also had full-time jobs in the field. The most I got out of my courses came from the real-world experiences that were described to us by our professors.... Read More The instructors always answer emails promptly and most provide their cell phone numbers in a case that texting them would be appropriate. The staff usually introduce themselves and prefer to be addressed by their first names. I feel as if my teachers at FAU were able to successfully join with and give specialized attention to any student that desired that. My favorite aspect of the Social Work program was the Field Placement. Our last semester consisted of a Field Seminar class once every other week and 400 hours interning at the agency we were placed in. I learned much more than I imagined I would. There are a variety of great options as far as agencies a BSW student at FAU may be placed in. Also, if you are interested in interning in an agency that the school does not have a current contract with, you can contact the field faculty at the school and they may attempt to establish an agreement with said agency, making placement there a possibility.

I hear a lot of people complain about non-responsive instructors and non-responsive financial aide staff, but I have honestly had the exact opposite experience. I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that I was an online student, but any time I emailed a financial aide advisor or instructor, I always got a response back within 24 hours. My only qualm is it seems as though many of the classes were graded without constructive criticism from the instructors and a few of my A's were way... Read More too easy to obtain. With that being said, I learned some important skills that have helped me become ready for the workforce and I enjoyed my experience at Brandman. I will be going back for my MWS with them as well.

I started at Walden because the ideas they are promoting are important to me. Social change and activism is something I work towards on a daily basis. So, as far as the concept, Walden has a great foundation. However, the classes and platform are terrible. The website and classroom crash frequently and are hard to load because they tried to make them too fancy and pretty. Their set up is hard to follow and navigate. Sometimes I gave up on trying to do school work because the webpage wouldn't load.... Read More Next, each class seems to be the same thing but with different "learning material". The material is just some links or quotes from this or that. There is no real substance to any of the classes I've taken. The only class I can say I was engaged and learned anything in was the Psychology class. I don't have any way of knowing if their "Professors" are educated in the topic they are "teaching" because some of them don't even post anything constructive or productive in the discussions nor do they give you enough feedback to ensure you are learning enough. Lastly, my grip is with the fact that each course is 5 credits. Why is that? At first their per-credit cost looks competitive but when you factor in that you pay for 2 more credits than most schools you are paying a lot more. It's just not worth it.

This school was awesome working with the GI Bill and Financial Aid. It did take until week 5/8 to receive the funds but One Stop always responded and let me know where I stood financially. They did try to give me student loans which I did not need so I had to fight that twice. It never went through so in the end they ended up cancelling the $11,000 in loans. The professors were almost always awesome except a few who treated lower level courses as if they were for PHD level courses. That was ridiculous... Read More and everyone knows who they are. I have loved this school and the social work program department since day 1. I would go here or my Masters program if they offered a MSW (which they are next fall but it is not accredited yet). I would recommend this school to anyone.

Limestone College was an excellent school to go to. I enjoyed my time there as an undergraduate student. The professors, for the most part, are very understanding. They realize that a lot of there student body, especially the online students, are older, and working other jobs. They did their best to prepare me for the career of social work. I will say that I do not think I was prepared for the masters program that I attended after Limestone, but I was prepared for licensure. This is important because... Read More the licensure test is tough, but I felt well prepared for it just by what I learned at Limestone. I had a few professors who were not very helpful, but for the most part, they are there for you and help you in any way they can. I was an entirely online student, but when I did have to go to an extended campus, they were accommodating and listened to my concerns. I think if you are looking for an online school in South Carolina, Limestone is a great school. If you are not a traditional student, they are very understanding of your time. The classes go by very quickly, but you learn a lot. Even though they are only 8 weeks per course, you get a good education, and it does not take as long to get through the program. I have attended a few schools over the past few years while gaining my degree and I would say that Limestone is one of the best for someone my age.

I am part of the first online cohort for the BSSW program offered at the University of North Dakota. Since I was part of the first online BSSW program, I did not have reviews to read or alumni to talk to about their experience so I was unaware of what to expect. I had previously taken some online classes and was unimpressed with their teaching styles and curriculum so my hopes weren't very high for this program. I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the classes and the professors. The classes... Read More were taught in a synchronized fashion so I was able to see the professor in real time, interact with them as well as my classmates, and participate in lectures and class projects. There were obviously some hiccups sometimes which comes with technology but overall my experience was nothing but positive. My professors were extremely knowledgeable, very helpful and adjusted their teaching methods based on the needs of the class. They were always there to answer my questions, returned graded assignments in a timely manner and were honestly invested in my education and growth in the social work field. I am so glad I was able to attend and I feel honored to be part of the first cohort of the online BSSW program.
