I am a long-time (thirty-plus years) healthcare professional who currently still works at the bedside doing bedside care and diagnostic testing in a federal medical facility. I also work predominantly off-tours, every weekend, extended night shifts, and an occasional emergency call-in. Additionally, I have an elder parent in a bordering state that I frequently travel home to check in on. In other words, nuances that make a traditional brick-and-mortar institution frown upon those of us who have the desire to further our education but need a pathway forward. WE ARE GOOD EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS when allowed to forge ahead! I embarked on a somewhat unfamiliar major, but after reading about it, I wanted in! MS Emergency Services Management was perfect for me. I learned something new, so it kept me engaged, and the field is an eye-opener to some of the thought processes behind the realm of terrorism and homeland security. I should mention that Columbia Southern University has these courses and related degrees for those who wish to take their knowledge in that direction. My journey was extremely positive. Coming home to an empty house in the prime of the COVID pandemic after wearing a sweat-filled mask and other gear was a depressing gut punch physically and psychologically. There were times when I could not come home for days/nights, let alone visit family members...especially an elder parent. Going to school online at a positive institution that encouraged me in my demise saved my sanity!!! Starting off is always a bit scary, and technology was unkind to me initially! Expect this when you haven't been in school for decades! Yes, several decades! This institution works with the willing! HAVE YOUR CRY and GET BACK UP! Let yourself being PISSED OFF MOTIVATE YOU, and by golly get the HECK back up, and CRUSH IT! This institution is not for everyone but does fill an enormous void for working professionals, single parents, hard-working two-parent households, deployed men or women, someone who perhaps is homebound for any number of reasons, and for the person who cannot even get home!!! Let THAT sink in! I am proud of my accomplishments at this institution. At some point, I plan to pursue another degree. It may or may not be at this institution, but it will not be because I did not achieve what I set out to do at Columbia Southern University. This place is WONDERFUL, and I want everyone to know this. It's also affordable...say what? say what! Say What! I am an Army of one, with my financial and motivational support system comprised of what I see when I look in the mirror. I know I am not the only one in this boat. I am over the moon that I kept at it and got my degree. YOU can too, and I sincerely wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Find an institution that will work with you in your circumstance and one that will not leave you with insurmountable debt, regret, depression, and wanting to meet your professor in the parking lot!!! Overall the course work was easier than I anticipated but the courses did get difficult as the course went on. Advising department, I found, to be completely and utterly useless. Professors have little wiggle room for grade adjustments and some were unwilling to review assignments. Some courses were concurrent, one after another working on the same project, but, I was registered with a course in between. So for 7 weeks I was separated from the assignment and was expected to pick up where I left off.... Read More The courses were all set up the same and the instructional design was OK. Except for the applied research courses, which were the most difficult, they were not designed the same and this through me off. I think if you are looking for a Master's to say you have one or to specifically use the degree for career or salary benefits in a career you are already in, its great. But if you are coming out of a BA/BS from an in-person school like I did and going into a masters before entering the career, you may have an issue finding a job as you'll have no experience and no real way to connect the experience with the courses, as they are only 6 weeks. I think PG should really change the branding and align it closer to Purdue University. When I originally looked at this program online @ PU a couple years prior, it was essentially the same. Then from PG, I was disappointed at the lack of rigor that I would have otherwise expected from PU. I think this may be because I am a good writer and I was not out of my undergrad for that long, so APA and all that was still very fresh. But now, when I do things like seek reimbursements or list my university on some kind of online system Purdue University Global does not appear on those lists. I work for MIT, got the job while already in the program so nothing immediate has happened, but when I sought to utilize tuition reimbursement I needed to prove that PG was a real university. I did all my research on accreditation and such so I knew it was legit and very similar to many other great universities that have "global" attached to their name after acquiring other entities, such as Maryland University Global, great university but that "Global" bit does not always appear on searches and creates problems when verifying my degree. Not to be alarmist, because they are accredited, strongly, and do have the leadership of the Purdue University Trustees but this bit should definitely be addressed so that people are not left wondering about validity post degree.

Arizona State University was fantastic at working with me to apply for my graduate program. While I was still completing my Bachelor's at a different university, they were able to understand my situation as a military service member and assist me in the application process. I was accepted into the program without even being complete with my Bachelor's. The advisors were fantastic with explaining the entire process as well as reminding me that military Tuition Assistance will not cover the entire... Read More tuition and that I will need to seek other funding. The online functions and program are incredibly easy to navigate and conduct course work. I highly recommend ASU to anyone seeking a Master's but does not have the ability to attend a physical institution.

Adler University is a diverse university. It provided valuable information towards my Master's Degree in Emergency Management. Enrollment was not difficult, and the school provided me with a counselor that assisted me in every step. Before my classes started, I took an orientation which explained how to navigate through all avenues of the on-line courses. They have reasonably priced books in their bookstore where you have the option to rent or buy a hardcopy or digital books. The professors provide guidance and a list of references used within the course and are available via email or phone for any questions. Adler University provided me an excellent avenue to start my secondary degree and has been nothing but helpful along the way.

I have been attending Arizona State University since 2014, working towards a MA in Emergency Management with a focus in Homeland Security. SUNY Empire was my first complete online school, for half of my Bachelors and my Masters. I had a great experience while going here, to the point when I continue to look for online schools, I use Empire's standards. I was searching for online schools to get my Master's and almost all want Live classes. If I'm busy with working and family, and unable to attend school physically, obviously Live classes would be just as inconvenient. I truly struggled with finding school that works like Empire because it was amazing. Therefore, I ended up going back to Empire for my Master's degree. What I hate, they have VERY LIMITED Master's program. It's ridiculous! I would get a double Master's and Doctorate if they would provide! Also their Master's does not really match their Bachelor's program, which they have a large and great selection from on that part. I've only had maybe 3 teacher's that were horrible from the time there. My advisor was great also but when she left, her replacement was terrible, no contact from her. Luckily this was towards the last 3 months before I graduated. Also great curriculum!!
